Hello after deciding that my old setup was getting old I wanted to try and build the system myself.

My old specifications;
Athlon 3700+ 64
GeForce 6200 TurboCache
1gb DDR Memory
150 x 2 Seagate SATA HD
DVD/RW x32

My proposed new specifications;
Antec 900 Case (Not too sure if this is the best choice?)
EVGA 680i SLI Mobo'
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
Zalman CNPS7700-CU 120mm Super Flower Cooler
2GB of Memory (Havent decided which yet, whatever is best for lowest price!)
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX
600W High Quality, Dual Fan ATX PSU With 2X SATA
150GB X 2 Seagate SATA HD (From old system)
DVD/RW x32 (from old system, wont really use it tho!)

If anyone has any ideas about how I could make this better / cheaper let me know, any kind of input is great, but most of all that it will work. Also would like to know what memory would be best, and also what case for the specifications!

Thanks a lot guys, hope to hear from you soon!
Matt

Edit the competing website out, quick! :p
The only online computer retailer on this patch is OcUK, aight? ;)

That's a very good spec. It would do nicely for you. The Antec case is pretty good. If you like its styling its engineering is pretty competitive. Personally, I'd get a Lian-Li PC-7. Photos don't do them justice. :-)

Could look at getting:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black

Sane here or maybe an Akasa Eclipse 62 also a brilliant case.

Coming from a newbies perspective, which case would be the easiest to install with? I dont like using too many tools, my hands can slip haha!

The Akasa 62 i hear has a lot of space.

Mmm it looks like it takes up a lot of space. It's not my taste to be honest, but beauty's in the eye of the beholder eh :p

The only tool you'll really need is a screwdriver. I buy cheap cases and mod them for airflow, but that's because I'm a cheapskate :D

I'd say the Lian Li gets my vote - I like the idea of a nice metal case, and the airflow does look good.

Personally I wouldn't upgrade your old system, it's ok. Just needs a faster videocard, and overclock that CPU.

I was getting fed up with the Athlon tbh, a lot of hitches and not much room to overclock. Aswell, the fact I wanted to try and create my own system was too good to resist!

Fair point.

Tbh id go for a bit of a cheaper route.

As stated above.

I wouldn't... if I had the money I'd be doing something pretty similar to him. It's nice to be near the front of technology for a little while :) And it's the kind of rig that'll last a couple years, too (although there is seemingly a lot to happen this coming year).

You should most definitely get a E4300 not the E6300. It's cheaper and will overclock higher than the 6300 very easily :)

Pitty I just bought the E6300 aww well, I have a friend who has the same system specs as me, and has managed 3ghz on his with the same Zalman cooler. So hopefully mine will manage close to that!
