So as the title suggests, iPhone 15 pro max is my first ever iPhone, coming from a life long Android smart phone users is taking some getting used to but used Apple Maps for first time today, couldn’t find the Speedometer.

Am I to understand there is none in Maps then? If not, are people in the UK using some separate app that runs as a small box, overlaying Maps? Any suggestions?

Guess I could go back to Google Maps but seemed to nice use an intergrated feature on Apple.

You might have to enable it, settings > Maps > Driving, under the directions heading.

Thanks all, yeah the settings option is purely for the speed limit, eg you’re in a 30mph area and such.

May just stick with Google Maps for driving then.

Oh you meant a live read out? Surely there’s what the speedometer is for?
I’m really anal about going at actual speeds not the 2 or 3 less it says you’re going at on the car speedometer. Eg when I see speed camera I go past them bang on, average speed zone I keep it bang on actual. I’m no hypermile freak but I just kinda got used to phone for maps, speed and such.

The phone will read out as well, if youre that anal about it why not get one of those fancy ones they use for official records?

iOS seems more than capable so just a floating overlay box with the speed would do, that you can just place in the corner of screen. Can’t find one though, just lots of generic looking dedicated speedometer apps that take up the full screen and at best collect data after the fact whilst you have another app open (I have Maps open), defeating the purpose.

Is there no such thing for iOS then? Floating overlays?

Pretty sure it does in a little bottom left road sign style circle? Or it used to and now it just shows the speed of the area? Now you've got me wondering which it is haha
It shows the speed limit IIRC, but not the car speed. I've stopped using it as I used to share my journey via my phone but once it connects to CarPlay it seems to stop, I don't have that issue with Waze plus IMO it has other benefits as mentioned.

Oh man, how crazy. The concept of knowing one’s speed via an app that uses gps constantly to give you driving directions in realtime. Seems like a big ask on iOS.

What about a simple speedometer widget floating overlay whilst having Maps or Google Maps open?

It definitely used to show you what speed you were doing as I remember that, and then IIRC the colour would change it you went above the limit. As I can remember it showing 66 in a 70 and comparing it to my speedo. Maybe it's been changed, been awhile since I've had to use it ha.
Waze seems alright but I just don't see the 'need' for it personally, GMaps shows you conjestion and neither app has ever 'saved' me tbh from hassle.

I've never seen it on Google Maps using iOS, but I could be mistaken.

Ah fair enough mate :) It used to when I last had an iPhone circa iPhone 5c, since then I've had droids, I genuinely can't remember wether it was the old iPhone version or the droid version that used to show me the speed. The only reason I remember it was once a thing, was the 66mph sticking in my head as that's obviously not a speed limit haha.
