Mine was from a pre-built system by MESH which had onboard 6100 geforce graphics, walked into ****** one day and saw a 7300GS on sale and decided to go for it, got such a FPS boost in command and conquer that i was a happy egg for quite a while :D never looked back since lol

anyone else?

My first upgrade was building my own comp :D.

Went from:

Emachine
Intel celeron 1.8ghz
768mb ram
onboard intel graphics

to:

intel e2200 2.2ghz (OC'd to 3.0ghz)
2gb 800mhz ram
8400gs (recently upgraded to 8800gts)

and what a difference in games :). Runs anything i throw at it (even crysis on high) :D.

I have a very vague recolection of my dad talking me through changing a 66MHz 486 chip up to an 80MHz one, which was a hell of a perfromance jump.

Adding the memory expansion to a ZX81.

Replacing the 8086 (could have been an 8088) in an Amstrad 512 with the cloned go faster version. It was probably a AMD chip but I can't quite remember.

Gettting a math co-proccesor for my 386 (could have been a 486sx).

Yes I am getting quite old!

my first upgrade was replaceing a Radeon 9000pro (which i still have!) with a 9800pro.

that was a performance jump! it allowed me to play far cry!

Long long time ago: Upgrading family PC to 32MB memory from, think 8MB :) Made me a believer in adding more RAM as a good & viable upgrade.

my first upgrade was a pentium 2 350mhz to an athlon X2 4800+ and an ATI Rage 8mb to an 9800 pro and after a while with that to a 7600GT which I still have :p I keep it as a backup as its a solid card.

Now im gonna be running a Q6600 @ 3.4ghz, 4GB 1066mhz ram, BFG OC2 GTX260 216 core
