Hi guys. Please excuse this rather crude diagram, but just trying to visualise how to layout my pretty simple loop.

I've got all the bits needed in my basket (all be it something for a drain valve but I have an idea how to do this and where to put it) Does this look about right guys? any advice?

Looks good flow wise,

I'm presuming it's a res/pump combo that you are depicting next to the rad?

Maybe put res a little higher, normally you put the res higher than the rad.

yes it is, its the XSPC D5 Photon 170 Reservoir/Pump Combo

And the rad will be the EK Water Blocks EK-CoolStream XE 360 (Triple)

not sure how I could get the pump higher than the rad. Its just really a rough outline of where things will go, but will mount the res as high as possible.

Res is fine where it is, you could have the rad in the roof and the res in the bottom, many setups do.
