Hi guys,

I've decided to take it upon myself to create myself and my Lord of the Rings Kin a Forum or some sorts, of which I currently no nothing about.

I have done a little reading and downloaded myself MYSQL and PunBB though I am a little stuck now hehe. I have installed MYSQL and I've uploaded the PunBB files onto my webspace, but after that I'm a little stuck. I'm confused as to where to go from there in regard to setting up the database (i.e. is it done through a GUI or commands) and everything in between hehe.

Would anyone know of some dummy guides to getting a forum up and running, possibly with a nice looking skin and a database to go with it...

Oh and my FTP software is a pain to navigate so if anyone knows of any free ones that would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help in advance.

try reading the documentation that comes with punbb. (RTFM) :p it will more than likely have a setup page where you enter a few details and it will configure the database for you.

I downloaded FileZilla, and what a great bit of kit :)

I will continue to read through the docs and see what I can find out, and of course report back my findings :)

Cheers.

I seem to be stumbling at the first hurdle. I've got MySQL installed and uploaded the content of the Upload directory to my webspace; opened install.php in Firefox, but I don't get any instructions to follow , just more information and then lots of code.

Am I missing a vital component possibly?

Thanks.

This may be a silly question, but do I require an Apache server as I keep hearing this name in the documentation I read?

Thanks.

what are you doing? you mention webspace, uploading but have mysql and punbb on your own pc???

you either need webspace with php/mysql support. you then upload punbb via ftp and set it up that way

OR

you want to test on your own pc in which case you need to install apache, php, mysql and then setup punbb. no ftp client is needed because the files are on your pc.

i'm confused. :p
