i'm just about to build my first computer EVER.

here are the planned specs, some of them i know ill be getting and some of them, i'm not too sure:

Ram:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-114-OC

HDD:
Either 1, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-138-SE

or two in RAID0 (depends if i can stretch the budget) i'm only 14(almost 15) you see:)

Motherboard:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-124-GI

or

should i get a motherboard specially devoted to gaming? (please note i would like to run sli in the future, maybe even tri)
like

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...80i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (wow long adress:))

Video Card (here comes the muscle:cool:)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-008-ZT (or should i go for EVGA?)

case:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-065-AN&tool=3

CPU:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-192-IN

PSU:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-OC

CPU cooler:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-015-AS&tool=3

optical drives:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-001-OK (to install RAID0, or i might just create a custom windows installation DVD)

(PLEASE can someone give me link to/reccomend a good CD/DVD drive, as there's just so many to choose from, max budget for this is £30, throw in blu ray if you can:))

and we can't forget thermal paste now can we,
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=AC-000-AC&tool=3

with the OS (windows vista) i hope this comes up to just over £800

if not, I'll have to het the begging engine revved up

please fell free to comment on any compenent,

but i would really appreciate if you could offer other compenents at the same price, as i am on a budget(which is why i'm not going for EXTREME edition of anything):)

All looks good, you know you can put in a screenshot of your basket, like this

for example, makes it easier for everyone to see
Id just stick with the first m/b, maybe put the extra money towards something else
make sure you go for the 64bit windows

Just curious Kenny, few people been saying that about OCZ of late, any particular reason or way in which theyre dodgy?
Ive got a pcpower&cooling which is a branch of OCZ and its fine, although the first one I received I did have to RMA as faulty, is this what you and others are meaning? theyre sending out a lot faulty ones?
Sorry to hijack your thread hazzacool :)

i don't mind:) i was gonna ask the exact same quetion, lol. ehy is OCZ not a good choice, and would that PSU handle the gtx 260 in dual sli?

yeah ocz just done have a very good rep as the say in the power supply market like they do in the ram section...

just a lot go faulty after a while mate :) so trying to help you out so you dont have to get a new one quicker than you think lol

in sli the gtx 260 and all the rest of his hardware shouldt go above 400-450 watts so the 520 will be more than capable man ;)

no need, he's right, you'd have to go for your 2nd m/b choice or another nforce board to SLI, but if you could afford it you'd be better with the gigabyte and stretch to a 280 - they might come down a bit next week with the release of the 295???

can you recommend a good motherboard compatible with sli and in the £100-£150 price range?

thanks for any help
nope don’t exist because nvidia overcharges the mobo makers for the rights.

BUILD

Reasoning

Ram I would avoid OCZ at pain of death Corsair is the only brand. imo If you want to save some cash there is a new 8500+ XMS corsair kit costing around £60 same timings just doesn’t have the huge unnecessary heatsinks.

HDD 320gb drives are bigger & faster than 250gb for not much cost.

MOBO The mobo you speced is a good budget choice the gigabyte equalivant of Asus p5q pro but its cheaper & has a UK based RMA.

As for a "gaming mobo" you mean overpriced crashing mobo if you want sli you want i7 as nvidia cant make Northbridge’s to save their life intel can :P

GFX
I find £20 for a higher clock 8 year longer warranty & free FarCry 2 and 3D Mark Vantage is worth it :P

Case Ahh the antec vacuum cleaner as you can see I’ve speced some dust filters as it really needs them.

If you want tio bring your budget down an antec 300 + 2 xilence 120mms will have the same cooling but be £20 cheaper.

PSU: OCZ psus are still poor even though they now own PCP&C so I’ve speced this budget coolermaster its decent, cheap & should power you fine.

Cooling The one Asus silent night may look nice but isn’t the best of coolers, The tuniq tower is cheaper cooler & comes with decent thermal paste.
