First Man (2018)

There's a lot of good chat about this. Damien Chazelle must be top of the list of annoying over achievers though. How infuriating he's the same age as me and already directed Whiplash and La La Land  :p

I'd highly recommend people read The Right Stuff before this comes out. It'll tee it up nicely I'd imagine.

So, Apollo 13 without the disaster and a moon landing instead.

I"d suggest you read The Right Stuff as above. It's a fascinating story of how the Russians beat the Americans to basically everything in the Space Race. It was a total embarrassment. It's actually a really interesting story that doesn't get told because, ya know, 'murica, we went to the moon first ya'll...

The subject matter and cast would be reason enough to go, but the fact Chazelle is directing has me guaranteed to be there opening weekend. Can't wait!

Reviews for this are looking not too bad at all. Anyone got plans to see it over the weekend?

Going Friday to see it at imax in Chichester. Was surprised when I booked it yesterday how many seats had sold (less than 10).

As some reviews are already out I guess I'm allowed to say I've seen it and its awesome. Does not disappoint. Damien Chazelle is annoyingly talented :(

Or did they.....dun dun dun !

Damien Chazelle seems to have the midas touch. Three consecutive movies all rated nearly 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This one has 90%.

I have always felt that the greatest tragedy of the "Space Race" was that the USA got to the Moon first.

Had the USSR done so, we would be all over the Solar system by now!

Stunningly good film. Throws you into it right from the first seconds. The intense flight sequences, the heartbreaking realities of a difficult family life. You could hear a pin drop in the cinema at some points. Soooo much more to the film than I was expecting, hats off to you Damien Chazelle, a stunning piece of work and incredibly more emotional than I thought it would be.

Think this was exactly my thoughts. The way the camera and sound worked to put you there. Not been so tense watching a film for a very long time.

I have two cinema choices.. good cinema means 40 mins each way, meal out and expensive tickets.

Poor cinema is 5 mins walk. But isit really poor.

Does the film warrant the good cinema?
