First mATX build issues with pic

Purchased all the components from Overclockers and built the PC yesterday (specs below).

When I first powered the machine, the CPU fan was spinning but there was no beep (not sure if motherboard has speaker) and no display on monitor. I tried VGA and DVI of on-board graphics.

I then stripped the PC and placed the motherboard on the box and only connected 24-pin, 8-pin CPU, Front Panel power header, one stick of RAM and of course, CPU and cooler - still no beep or display on monitor but as previous CPU fan was spinning as per picture.

Have I received a faulty motherboard or have I done anything wrong or missed anything?

Thats about all it can be, you have sod all fitted.


It is a digital display? as the DVI port on the board is digital only and you cant convert it to VGA

Would the bent pins most likely be on the CPU or motherboard?

I'm quite new to this - it was connected via VGA to my Panasonic TV, then DVI to my Samsung P2370 monitor - both did not display. Can you please elaborate on this?
 
It will be on the board, in the socket itself.

The CPU is flat with tiny gold circular pads that the pins touch.

Edit..thry the stock cooler, it is possible that over-tightening of that aftermarket cooler has bent the pcb slightly and causing pins not to make contact.

Can the CPU have any damage to the pads or should I focus mainly on the motherboard pins?

With regards to the cooler, it was screwed in quite tightly to ensure it was fitted correctly - could this really cause an error? I'll fit the stock cooler and let you know along with the pin status.

I have yet to check pins yet, but should I need to replace the motherboard, would an Asus H81M-PLUS work with the G3220 CPU without having to update BIOS?
 
I'm 100% sure that CPU will work with that board, we've been building that CPU+Motherboard combo at work since release.

I'd be looking at the pins/trying the stock cooler.

I'll change to the stock cooler. Is installing a cooler too tightly a common error?

For reference, the cooler I'm using is the Raijintek Zelos. Could the screw fittings short the board?
 
I doubt the board is being shorted - it would normally trip off/not turn on at all.

In the past I've seen plenty of issues with over-tightened CPU coolers, using the stock intel cooler it's pretty much impossible to apply too much pressure.
 
Reset CMOS, un-tightened the CPU cooler and it did eventually boot but only with one RAM module in slot 2; slot 1 did not boot with either stick that was tested. I presume the motherboard is faulty?
