After my first mechanical keyboard, have no idea about them.

There seem to be many different layouts and combinations, i'm after RGB colour (these i'm assuming do any colour you want not just the rainbow effect? i don't want rainbow effect), num pad, not fussed about macro keys.

I'm going to a local store to try out the different types of cherry switches as they got a test setup.

Are these just what you swap out if your keyboard choice doesn't come with the colour you want?

I don't visit this section very often but have seen the Ducky brand mentioned a few times. Are these the go to brand?

Any recommendations please.

Budget £150.

Thanks.

For £150, you can get pretty much anything RGB. I'd go Ducky personally, I don't trust Corsair as much in terms of reliability, but they look nice.

As for the switch, it's a preference. And no, you can't swap them around. The entire keyboard is usually one type of switch.

MX brown are basically jack of all trades, they feel the most 'normal'. MX blue are clicky (kinda like mouse buttons), while the MX red, MX black, are not, just like 'plungers'. The other types of keys are more rare, and just variations on the theme (harder to press, usually).

Also worth remembering that mechanicals usually have more travel than your regular membrane keyboard, and especially low profile, laptop / apple-style keyboards. Also, noisy.

In your price range I'd recommend either Ducky shine keyboard or Corsair strafe rgb or corsair K70 Lux rgb. All great keyboards and should be available in the type of switch you prefer after testing. Logitech are worth a look too but they're newer keyboards are on they're own variant of mx switches called Romer G.

having had a good read, i'm leaning towards the Corsair K70 Lux RGB cherry red, going to my local store on Monday to see and try out.

Definitely try out mechanical before purchase. Yes they are good but hardly the big win people make them out to be. And yes I own a mechanical keyboard (owned 3 now)
