First MMORPG

EVE! Just started a couple days ago and its my first MMORPG as well. The tutorial is very good (if a bit long) and introduces the basics really well. Plus you dont have to spend huge amounts of time at it if you dont want because you dont have to be playing to train skills.

For a fun, easily accessible pick-up-and-play game, I'd say CoH beats WoW. It certainly hasn't got the depth - but its huge fun, easy to play, easy to get groups and with the 'sidekick' system you can play with any of your mates at any time, no matter what your level is.

I wouldn't touch WoW with a bargepole unless I knew some people who were playing it - I only play with my personal mates now - the community is the worst I've ever come across.

City of Heroes/City of Villians is very easy to get into, more of a a MMORPG lite, it focus' a lot on combat, but combat is fast paced and enjoyable.

It's also a break from the usual fantasy, dragon slaying stuff :p

Eve was my first and I've been playing for almost a year now. To be honest its so different from most of the other games out there I don't really see how playing WoW for a bit will prepare you for it, just jump straight in!

If you do decide to give AO a go give me a shout (that goes for anyone) I'll try and help you out. A bit short of cash at the moment as I just bought a Yalm (although the cash should soon build up). Certainly could help out with some items and knowledge though :)
