First NAS Setup?

Currently in the market for a NAS system, been looking at getting the Icy Box enclosure and putting in one or two 1TB Samsung F1 drives, depending how we want to start. This came to a total of around £250.

Are there any other alternatives that you would recommend? Seen that there are 1TB LaCie drives, for about £120 each, which could just get two or more of them, but one system would be the best bet!

Will be used to store our music, playing music via Airport Express, and transferring data between the laptops/computers, so general use really.

Any ideas?

FREENAS !!
Get an old box back up and running, just stick a RAID controller in if you've got no SATA ports and install freenas with a software RAID

Nah not wanting to go down that route, trying to get rid of the old boxes, lol.
