AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 3900x Ryzen 9 3900X
Msi tomahawk plus only 6 sata though
memory not a clue

i mostly make videos dvds with convertxdvd
10 video clips encoding at once and 4k video editing

would like 8 sata ports as have lots of hard drives saves me swapping and be able to use the fastest m.2 card
and usb c front a big plus
using a 4 core 8 thread atm

8 years behind with the times / or do i wait
any help thanks
 
Have you set a budget for this build as it would help others (like me) spec you parts to put together.
 
If you consider that your Motherboard and CPU alone will be approaching £550 even if you choose the lowest CPU of the options you gave, I would say 6-700 for the entire build is "optimistic".
 
The OP only requires CPU, MB, and RAM. Maybe a SATA card too. Maybe a cheap video card if he doesn't already have one. So £700 should be doable.
 
yes only need cpu mb and ram
other thing can add a bit more for a front mounted usb usbc 3.1 gen 2 box but it depends on mb headers
and if its worth paying extra fpr the up coming msi x570 for future proofing
 
If you are going to use a M2 slot then you are going to lose some sata ports. For example, that MSI B450 Tomahawk Max will lose Sata 5 and Sata 6 when a M2 slot is used so that drops you to 4x Sata ports. If you want 8 sata ports as well as being able to use a M2 slot then you are going to need a add in Sata card.
 
does it support newist m2 and what add in sata are good also need a front header for usb 3.2 and usb c
maybe differnt mb msi x570 or 550 ? can find a bit extra for this
