Well I've done 1500miles in 3months on my trusty CBF125 and yesterday morning decided to have a slide down the road. :(

Wet road. 2 Lanes going in to one on a slight left bend but the right hand lane has people moving and turning right and always space for me to go through. I was following traffic down the right at about 10mph then the guy in front jammed his brakes on to try and cut in the queue of traffic on the left.

My instincts take over and I take a handful of front brake (stupidly). Front wheel locks and I go down on my left and slide under the back bumper with minimal contact. I was panicking with him claiming etc but the guy was ok and helped me up and agreed to go on his way. Despite it being my fault for being too close etc he obviously felt a little bad.

Didn't feel hitting the floor or anything, had all my gear on so maybe that's why I didn't feel it. But I stayed sat on the bike and the handle bars and my top box kept room for my leg I guess.

Got it upright and had a look and the gear selector had inverted, managed to get it in to neutral and to the side of the road. Then managed to get it facing the right way and nursed it to work. Left and lunch and took it to the garage.

Damage is:

Scuffed fairing - left this to remind me :p
Scuffed top-box - same as above
Indicator smashed - Replaced for £25
Clutch lever bent - Replaced for £12
Handle bars bent - Replaced for £50

£116 in total including labour and fixed the same day ready for me to use this morning so not at all bad.

Hasn't knocked my confidence but I've definitely learnt from it!

On and completely separate note... Can mobile speed vans get bikes? I know the obvious reason is no with the lack of front number plates etc but do they have an additional front facing cam to get you as you go past? :o

Unlucky dude :( but yeah, best you get this experience on a 125 with a bill of £116 than later on a bigger bike with new fairing costs :p. Well done on the gear as well, so many people out there on smaller bikes think "It's only a 125, i'll where jeans and dr.martens and i'll be fine".

Over time, especially now, you will get out of the habit of using brakes at all when cornering. I know it's hard to remember in these cases because it's all on reaction, try and dodge next time and keep more of a distance.

As for speed camera vans. Was it face on or rear on? If face on, they won't get you unless they feel you're a serious danger (wheelies and mass excessive speed) which they will then hunt you down on description if they feel it's worth their time.
If rear on camera, they'll get your plate and you can get points/fined as per anybody else.

Yer full gear is a must, only way I could get a bike past my wife :p Plus it rains a lot in Manchester so makes sense :p

I know what I did wrong so I'll always have it in my mind. Just hard not to jam the brakes on. More distance, more back brake and more gradual.

Yer front facing camera and no, no wheelies :p
