I'd never overclocked before but I was advised to do so as i was told my CPU was a good chip for OC'ing and that my AC Freezer Pro was good enough for a semi decent OC.
After reading the sticky and whatnot I set about upping my FSB and ended up settling on 400x9 for 3.6ghz OC. I didn't go higher since my RAM is only rated to 800mhz and so reducing the System Memory Multiplier to its lowest setting of 2.00B (i have no idea what the A/B/C/D bits actually mean/do) my RAM was kept at its rated speed and gave a 1:1 FSB
RAM ratio. I upped the RAM voltage to 2.0 since the sticky said it should actually be as high 2.2 and not its rated voltage of 1.8.
Everything went super and I ran prime95 in Small FFT and Blend a bunch of times for 1hr+ with no errors or bad results all on a stock vcore of 1.2500. The problems arose when i got a bit ahead of my self.
Since my temps were staying below 50c i decided to up things further. To cut a long story short i upped the FSB to 445, I upped the vcore up a not 1.2600 and the RAM vcore to 2.1. The end result being the computer failing to post and the dual bios thing kicking in to return me its original safe levels. I'm now back at my original settings of 400x9 etc.
I'm almost certain that the failing to post was due to the ram voltage since i have since found out that my CPU vcore actually sits at about 1.3 when left in AUTO (i forgot to manually set it after all BIOS settings were reset) which is obviously higher than the 1.2600 i set it to when it failed to post. Having now set it manually to 1.2500 it seems to idling at 1.1 (ish) so its now undervolting instead of overvolting to 1.3
My main question is basically where do i go from here?
Should i just be happy with 3.6ghz since my RAM seems to be temperamental?
What should my vcore actually be since it seems to idle on 1.3 when left in AUTO.
What should my System Memory Multiplier be? 2.00 A,B,C,D? And what do they mean/affect?
Is there anything else i should look into?
Many thanks.
