First Overclock

Hi all, I have finally decided to clock my system just that little bit more after my friend clocked it to 3.2, but I am thinking that my CPU is running a tad high, my CPU is a E6850 and I have clocked it to 3.42

Thanks for the speedy reply, sometimes they do go up to about 68 when running prime95

Well P95 runs far hotter than anything will in day-to-day use, so it can hit near 80c without any issues.

You can certainly try.

Tho you may need a fairly big voltage bump to get it stable.

My core Voltage is currently running at 1.400V thats what is showing on Cpu-Z, please be gentle as its my first overclock, its now running at 3.6Ghz

1.4v is still pretty low for that chip. You may need to go a tad higher to get 3.6ghz stable.

But that's grand. Just keep an eye on your load temps.

So how do I know how far to take the voltage up to?

Its made a fair bit of differents on my 3Dmark06 its gone from 11719 to 12822

It's at the right setting when it's stable.

Ok thanks, I will start prime95 and see how it goes, any ideas how long to run it for?

8 hours is a good start.

Or you can run the much quicker Intel Burn Test. It seems to be the latest and greatest for stress-testing.

i always run intel burn test till im happy then 8 hours of prime.
