FIRST POST - ADVICE PLEASE !!

hi and welcome mate

system looks good

i know its up to personal preference on the case

but...

are you looking for something quiet or is that not an issue?

my old antec 900 was really loud - putting in a noisy gpu was noticable

if it wont bother you then leave it as is

but the p182 may be a better choice if you want silence

oh and my other suggestion would be to invest in a samsung/western digital hd for your data and keep your raptor for os

overkill on the motherboard

crossfire/sli is a waste of money imo

graphics cards depreciate in value fast enough when you own one!

If the system is mainly/soley for gaming I'd wait until the E8500 drops to around £115 and get that. They overclock silly on air and will beat a Q6600 on most applications as nothing really uses 4 cores at the moment.

Quad core is future-proofing yourself but by the time quad cores are used for everything the Q6600 will be obsolete. There's new quads coming out already.
The E8500 will run faster for the time being for games and general use as it overclocks to near 4ghz on air

i ended up ordering this lot :

so it looks like im going to have to learn how to overclock!

You will have problems overclocking with 8gb though.

Everything else looks fine (apart from the Antec case, which I can't stand!) :D

overclocking is easy
if you can use a calculator - you can overclock
just take small steps

once you get a nice increase you will get the bug and it will become part of the process of building pc's

the last 5 pc's i have built for people i have overclocked slightly for them in order to get the most out of their money for them

my 1st overclock was with a pentium4
my 2nd was with my amd x2 4800
my 3rd was with my c2d e6300 i have now

follow this and you will be laughing
read through it and apply the practice to your new rig

Changing the memory settings is half the fun. Nice spec (BTW). Get the PC, get it built. Let is run in for an afternoon while you marvel at how great your games look compared to your old system. Then start another thread about how to overclock :-)

Enjoy the experience of the build.

FSX is very CPU intensive so overclock the nuts out of the E8500.

3.8Ghz will get you some fine rendering. ;)

Shame, as a Quad would probably have gone better. Not entirely sure if FSX supports them though.

Yes it’s great as long as you don't get any DOA parts. Not that I had any in my build, but I can imagine how frustrating it would be if you press the power button and nothing happens.

I was so nervous the first time I pressed the power button but was so relieved to see it post. Now that is one of the greatest feelings ever!:D

Good luck and enjoy it mate.

It does support multi core very well. Performace is much higher with a quad, so FSX addicts tell me.

cheers, in what way do you mean problems oveclocking? Will there be any room for overclocking at all? Also will i have to change any of the memory settings?

Nah, not that bad, it's only that 4 sticks put more strain on the motherboard. You will probably get 0.2Ghz to 0.4Ghz less with 8GB i expect.

You can probably try with 4 and 8 to see the difference.

alright fellas, build went well, ill put some pics together when i take em.
Put Vista 64 OS on, ran all the up-dates, put the ATI drivers on, Avast, etc etc.

I then updated the Asus DVDRW (firmware from the ASUS Website). Re-booted it. Now the DVDRW is permanently spinning. It wont eject no matter what i do. And 'Error Loading OS' comes up. So i cant even get back onto Vista!!! I suspect the DVD could be buggered or i'm a complete idiot and did something i shouldnt have - but dont know what!!! Am going to tamper about with it this afternoon when i get home. I'll check back in here as well to see if any of you guys have any ideas ??

i'm going to attempt to overclock this thing tonight or Tuesday. Have read the oveclocking guide by Jokester but i was going to ask first. Has anybody overclocked the P5E with an E8500 CPU running 8Gb RAM before? If so can i see what the eventual settings were / are?
