first SLR Nikon D3100 worth having?

Hi, I am thinking about getting the Nikon D3100 and basically I am wondering
if there is any reasons why not to go down the route before I actually part with cash

according to the link above this beats the entry level Canon but the one thing
I am concerned about is the camera not having a built in auto focus motor
and being a new to SLR I really don't know how much of a issue this could be

any advice would be welcome :)
i had the same question to myself a few months ago i ended up buying a Canon Eos 550d from ebay (digigood) it direct from japan and is identical to the uk one except it says kiss 4 or something everything else is the same all menus in english ect but here is the big but i paid less than the cost of the D3100 and it kicks its arse , dont be put off by the lack of warranty in the uk as jessops can repair them for next to nothing . it would need to cost 200 quid plus before you was out of pocket

mine has been fantastic no regrets

I picked up a 3100 a couple of months ago before the cash back offer, very pleased with it. Picked up a 35mm f1.8 whilst in the states last month too.

Enjoy your camera :)

I will be going for the Nikon D3100 over the Canon 1100D, and you know what pushed me towards the Nikon? The rubber grip :)
Yes, it was that close

Not the fact that barring the inclusion of a motor (not really that important), the D3100 is a much, much better camera than the 1100D? I'm a Canon fan of the two but the D3100 is leagues ahead

Got myself a D3100 the other day, with various money off i got it for £340 which wasnt too bad.
Excellent camera for my first DLSR, i went out and got a cheap telephoto lens today also, only got a tamron 70-300mm and it hasnt got image stab but ill be using it on a tripod for very long shots. For a basic telephoto lens the reviews are very good and its something to start me off.
The pictures from the D3100 are excellent and compare to my mates expensive canon, for the money on the D3100 you cant go wrong for a starter camera.
I spent a while reading all the reviews between this and various canons and the D3100 won every time :)
