Passed my test on Monday, first try and came through it with only 5 minors.

I'm off back home this weekend and my Mum has got me insured on her car for the weekend. Looking forward to getting behind the wheel by myself for the first time, although a little nervous.

Been looking at routes to take that I think I will be comfortable with taking, think I have a good idea now. I learnt to drive in London but had taken lessons in Portsmouth 10 years ago (and been driven around the roads for a long time) so should be fairly familiar with my surroundings.

What were other people's first solo experience like?

Congrats :)

First day with my licence I went and picked up a brand new car, went straight to my mates, where one of them proceeded to get in my brand new car with mud on his shoes.

Much anger ensued, then I drove to Manchester - some 80 miles.

My first long drive was from Manchester to Lincoln 3 days after passing my test, about 95 miles.

In those first 3 days after passing my test I just drove around town, to the shops etc.

Oh and well done on passing your test. :)

My first time was in thick ice in a car that hadn't been started for two months and that I had never driven before. Obviously it was a little odd at first but it soon felt natural enough. Just take your time and you'll be fine.

For the first 4 years of driving, I never went further than a 16 mile radius from my house. Basically I never needed to, and if I was going further, it would be going out with mates etc. So we would all get the train

Just take it easy and don't try anything stupid

Congratulations - Just drive where you feel comfortable and don't worry about holding people up etc they'll get over it. Lots of practice at all times of the day will see you well even if you don't have a car of your own for a few years yet

My first drive was down a national speed limit road with no lights at all (rural), I went around 45 MPH and quickly learned to use the full beams properly. Took me 2 weeks to get onto the motorway, got up early one sunday morning, went on at one junction, u-turn at the next and then back home - been fine ever since.

Took my test in my own car (Saxo VTR), drove home from the test centre via the motorway, dropped my instructor off then spent all afternoon and night driving around :D

Drove down to plymouth the same weekend for a night out too :)

I nearly bent it having maxed it down the A38 and realised an old Mini didn't brake as well as the modern car I took my lessons and test in...just as I failed to stop at the bottom of the slip road and proceed across the roundabout missing cars god knows how. My licence lasted 7 months before I was banned. I grew up quickly after that.

1 - Passed test.

2 - Not been in a car for 3 years.

3 - Then 3 refresher lessons.

4 - Hired car in Glasgow, 60miles drive through city, motorway and country and mountain roads all by myself. In a city that I have never been to, in a car i have not seen, trusting my Satnav totally.

I was so nervous that I didn't dare put on any music so I can concentrate 100% on the road, turned my phone off completely too.

Biggest journey I have done was to Dublin when I passed my test! Was weird driving in IE but everything was basically the same.

My first Solo was actually driving my first car home from the garage behind my dad, just took it slow and easy. Congratulations on passing :)

Haha I did pretty much the same in the exact same car but with my mum and no instructor :) Everyone else had their instructors and failed at the time.

I remember my first "solo" (well actually there were two mates in the car, but still) drive. It was November, and the car started to steam up. Queue screwing up how to demist it and nearly ploughing my newly-purchased £700 Starlet into a brand-new parked Astra. Needless to say the air-target never moved from "Windows" for a few months.

My mate still jokes I'dve been doing the guy in the Astra a favour though. :P

When I passed I came home insured my car and don't think I left it for a week.

I then stopped as I smashed it up, I did experience a lot during that period. Mostly how to wheelspin, what understeer was, why not to use part worns, and that it hurts like hell when you hit a lampost.

I grew up quickly after that.

My first day driving on my own was the day I picked up my first car. I was with a mate, but he doesn't drive. I was absolutely craping myself. Almost crashed as I drove it off the forecourt. Was meant to follow my Dad home but got lost as I had to stop at a roundabout and my phone (sat nav) decided to suddenly stop working so ended up driving through the middle of Manchester and over the A57M!

Within 3 days of passing my test I drove from Aberdeen to York via Peebles

Gale force winds, terrential rain, flooding. Motorway for the first time.

Straight in at the deep end.
