Hello,

I built my PC in 2013 so it's getting on 6 years old.

Still does what I need it to do but thinking of sticking a SSD in it to place my 1TB Seagate Barracuda Hard Drive 3.5" SATA III - ST1000DM003.

My mother board is a MSI H87M-E33 Intel H87 (Socket 1150) Micro-ATX and I'm told it has "SATAIII controller integrated in Intel® H87 chipset
- Up to 6Gb/s transfer speed."

I need at least 500gb what drive would you recommend ?

I've seen a Samsung 850 Evo 500gb for £65 second hand would this be suitable ?

Thanks Ben

The Samsung SSDs all get a great name. I would steer away from second hand drives though as SSD's have a total write capacity (i.e. how much data is written/read before it will give up) and you don't know how much a second hand drive has been used.

A brand new Crucial MX500 500GB SSD can be had for around the same price as the second hand Samsung and that would be a better option if that's your budget.

The price on that second-hand 850 Evo doesn't seem great when Samsung 860 Evo 500GB can be found new for £75.99.

In addition to the Crucial MX500, WD Blue 3D NAND and Seagate Barracuda can also be found new for less, and with 5 year warranty.

Pay an extra £10 for a brand new Samsung 860 EVO.
