First SSD build

I can build it outside the case, just wondering what this is to eliminate.

I took another mATX mobo by the same maker out before I installed this one, all the screws for the stand-offs have gone in, none left over, so there can't be a rogue stand-off causing problems.
 
I've put the previous mobo back in and it's absolutely fine. I've also reported the problem to the mobo supplier, my feeling is I've got a dud mobo or RAM.

Can I test the new RAM in my old mobo which is a Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-D3H?

Also a question about when I get it going - should I put the Lightroom catalogue on the SSD?
 
The RAM as when you insert it will run at 1333/1600MHz, you have to enable XMP profile to get it at 2133Mhz.

So you can stick it in the old board.
 
Thanks. Not bothered about the speed but it's worth testing it in my view. I've had dud RAM before.

If it's OK then I'll have another go with the new board - I'm getting rather good at swapping them...
 
Reseating the CPU (with new paste) fixed the problem - it's now loading umpteen windows updates. :)

I'm still curious as to what running the board outside the case would have demonstrated, given it's an upgrade into a known working case.

It eliminates shorting problems mainly.
