First SSD - Feel stupid

This a good or bad idea? Will be for my HTPC and my first step to SSD.

This is OS only and the rest of the junk for the c drive, sata 2 mobo

I would spend a little extra and get the C300 mate. That one you picked is fine but the C300 is a cracking drive and has a little more capacity than the Corsair one.

However I think a SSD might be overkill for a HTPC being honest as a Samsung F3 would serve you just as well. Do you really need a SSD for a HTPC? If you insist on getting one, then see below

Indeed. It's definitely the way to go if the SSD is the only drive in the machine and the content is being streamed from another device (NAS etc).

I think the OP's motherboard has only got SATA2 connection, so is C300 worth it for him?

I would say that the SSD is the single most valuable component on a HTPC build right now. I second the view that the C300 is a really good option and I swapped the OCZ 2E out of my HTPC build for the C300.

The thing with the SSD drive is that it takes an ordinary CPU and makes the system super speedy. And with the graphic cards taking over all the load on 1080p with DXVA2 enabled (even with a HD4550 card) - the SSD provides a huge boost in performance to what was a pretty dated system before that inclusion.
