First strobing backlight 3440x1440 - ASUS XG35VQ - 35" VA 100 Hz

So has anyone actually pulled the trigger on one of these...? :D

You've been asking that for days, I think you know the answer by now ;)

I bought this one a couple days ago, have had it up and running and so far everything is working just fine with it. Not installed the strobing backlight yet though, still undecided if I want it or not. Don't seem to be a too popular monitor though since could only find this and one more thread about it, although might be wrong.

I actually also bought one and forgot to report back! :D

Doom at 100Hz with Freesync is insane. Some games don't work so great though... PUBG gets a weird flicker when I open up the inventory / map. Also Freesync doesn't seem to work in the Radeon windmill demo - the tearing on that is pretty horrific. Also recently I am getting an error message in the Radeon driver notifications saying something about a link failure? Might need to do a clean reinstall of Radeon drivers?

Overall a great monitor, love the curve and size!

Well I’ve just ordered the last one Amazon had for £630 to arrive Sunday.

Seen totally mixed reviews with roughly 50/50 split on very good, or ghosting and smearing issues! Let’s see what’s it’s like :)

Keep replying to my own posts here haha! Considering returning this, first impressions were very good, but now starting to see smearing and it appears really bad. The witcher 3 at night for example is just a mess! And the third training mission in destiny 2 in the dark when you get your super and light Wells was really blurred. I don’t get it, my old cheaper BenQ 27” 60hz VA had non of that so don’t know why a premium monitor would?

Is IPS that much better? Thinking I should have got the Acer xf270 on offer instead!

Sounds you were unlucky with your monitor. I have the same and witcher 3 is just fine for me there. Can't comment on destiny 2 since not owning it. You could always return it and try a new one ? Or the Acer but never owne one of thier monitors so no comment there either. Hmm not really a helpful post but atleast you got another reply. :p

Thanks for the reply. Out of interest what settings do you have the monitor on for the witcher 3 and I’ll try that?

I’m also going to try old monitor side by side to get direct comparison.

I not really played with the settings (mostly due to laziness and the colours looks fine for me) but I changed it to the Cinema Mode and that makes Brightness to 90, Contrast to 80 and Saturation to 50 but I did change the gamma to 2.5. Don't think that will sort things out for you though if you got smearing, but guess never hurt trying. Good luck ! :)

Thanks, I had fps mode with overdrive set to max. Will try above, but as you say can’t imagine it will help.

It’s a shame as static images and bright areas look fantastic, but movement around dark areas just looks a total mess. Riding horse in the witcher at dusk for example looks like an old game in much lower res

Just an update on this, read some sites and messed around and this may be useful for others with VA panels......

I didn’t realise the overdrive function effectively causes 2 issues.

Having it set at zero may lead to juder or ghosting, having it at max leads to smearing (which was where I had it). Actually need to find balance in the middle which varies from game to game for best point.

Had a faff around last night and got destiny much better. The witcher 3 still a bit quirky but think that’s some micro stutter issue I need to check configuration tweaks for!

Still not 100% sold on the monitor but seems much better so will give it more time, as UW is certainly a huge upgrade so don’t what to give that up.
