Hello

I am new to this forum. I know you get loads of these every day but please can you have a look at my system. Is it compatible and is it the best value for money I can get? I don't need a high end PC. My budget is around £350 - 400 and what I want is to be able to play Fable 3 and Gothic 4: Arcania. Have I made any stupid mistakes that could be replaced with another alternative? This is my first system that I am going to build so please don't be harsh :D thanks a lot:

CPU:
AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core (£62) or AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black edition (£61)?

Motherboard:
ASUS SKT-AM2 M4A77 (£55)

PSU:
Corsair TX 650W Ultra Quiet (£68 )

GPU:
PALIT 1GB GeForce GTS 450 (£95)

RAM:
OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Platinum Edition 4GB (£65)

I already have a case, 250GB Hitachi HDD and DVD

I have read some of the topics about building a PC.

I would really appricieate some helpful tips.

Glad to see you've joined Ocuk and this is what i would get but you could swap the processor for the 555 to save 60 quid and so be in budget?

Hmm...its kinda over my budget that's the only problem...also would the AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core be better than the 555? And it has L3 as well as 4 cores.

dont buy DDR2 spec these days.

newer 8** series chipset with SATA and USB3.0

Corsair psu.

quad core cpu.

Right ok the second one sounds better but...just for future reference. How is your system better than mine. I mean what do I do to see and compare and build the most efficient systems. ALSO will your system play Fable 3 stulid?

Fable 3 specs:

AMD Processor - Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+
Nvidia Graphics Card - GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB
RAM Memory - 4 GB

herea cpu comparision between your choice and mine - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/29?vs=105 - some of those graphs are lower is better, so read carefully.

the MSI motherboard is a newer chipset with SATA and USB3.0

DDR3 vs your choice of older DDR2.

and a GTX460 is a lot faster than a GTS450, look at these charts for various games - http://www.anandtech.com/show/3909/nvidias-geforce-gts-450-pushing-fermi-in-to-the-mainstream/5 - and on through the pages.

as for Fable, it will destroy it.

You could swap out the Athlon II X4 630 and buy a Phenom II X2 555, then risk it and try to unlock it to a quad core.
I assume you also have Windows as well?

Hello

I have one tiny issue. I want to get it ASAP and im getting it via the 36 month payment scheme. The mobo is out of stock. Can you please suggest another one which is up to 15 pounds more expensive which is in stock? I would really appriciate your help. Thanks

EDIT

Which one of these would be better?

just pick one that you are happy with the price at.

but not RJC second motherboard link as thats a crossfire board and not much use for the Nvidia card.;

Sorry another question since I don't have to pay it in full I have a bit bigger budget. Soo instead of the 630 proccessor is it worth buying the 640. The anandtech website doesn't have the 640 so I can't directly compare. Will it make a big difference?
