Ok so I was building a PC for my parents about a year ago, set up everything how I thought it had to be done and... nothing. It didn't work. I tried troubleshooting it (with the help of you fine folks) back then but had no joy and I had to go back to Uni which meant leaving it for a year. I'm now back trying to get this hunk-a-junk to work. And I REALLY need some help :(

Specs of the build are:

1 x Asrock FM2A75M-DGS A75 Socket FM2 VGA DVI 5.1 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard
1 x AMD A10 5800K Black Edition 3.8GHz Socket FM2 4MB L2 Cache
1 x Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V Non-ECC Unbuffered
1 x Crucial 64GB M4 SSD - 2.5" SATA-III
1 x Seagate 1TB Barracuda 3.5" SATA-III Hard Drive - 7200RPM
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium w/SP1 (not yet installed)
1 x Powercool 450W PSU - 4x SATA 1x PCI-E

When I turn the power on all the fans (CPU and power unit) whirl up and it seems from the outside to be working. But it isn't outputting anything (as far as I can tell).

If I remove the RAM it beeps 3 times, stops briefly and repeats (which I believe is a goodish thing as I think that's it detecting missing RAM). But if I boot up without a keyboard or mouse plugged in it doesn't make a sound (might not be an issue, but I'm used to PCs issuing a long beep when it tries to boot without a keyboard).

I'm willing to try darn near anything and will provide any information or pictures or anything people might need. (I work during the week so any attempts at fixing will be done over the weekends, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on the thread).

I know you guys have tried once before, but I'm hoping you'll be kind enough to lend a rookie a hand again and maybe get this PC doing what it's meant to!

The days of beeps etc are long gone mostly!

When you power it on does the mouse/keyboard come to life at all? As in any LEDs or laser mouse, response from NumLock?

Also what do you have the monitor connected via?

No (which worries me...), although oddly I noticed that if I turned the power on and then plugged in the mouse the laser mouse would come on (it's laser would light up) before going back to seemingly 'dead'. Don't know if that suggests anything?

I'm currently connected with VGA but have previously (last year) tried other forms of connection.

(Thanks for the help by the way, very appreciated!)

Do you have a backplate on the CPU cooler? sometimes if its on too tight (could be shorting a component) or the wrong way around it can stop a system booting also is the motherboard is correctly on the risers so its not shorting on anything underneath?

Also do you have the extra 4pin 12v CPU power header connected properly?

Just a quick message to say I've read your reply Rroff and I'll check all of those things tomorrow when I get up and report back :)

Thanks for the help!

What are you connecting the pc to? (Monitor or TV)

Are you using HDMI or DVI cable? You may not get in to bios using HDMI.

On my media pc i had to connect to my moitor first using a DVI cable to enter bios and install windows, then connect to my TV using HDMI (still get no bios screen although windows works fine)

Just dropping a quick reply to say I haven't disappeared, but in a stroke of rotten luck I've had a pipe burst above my living room. Will be back trying to get this computer working once I've gotten that sorted. Very sorry for this and I do appreciate all the help being offered!

i had the same issue as the op. fans etc come to life, no display and a brief flash of life from keyboard and mouse when you plug them in. it was a amd phenom ii x6 1055t and had a bent pin on the cpu so id check that. ive ran my fx8350 in the same machine and currently has an fx4350 in it with no issues.

How did you manage to bend the pin
