Hey guys/girls (any women here?.....)
Any how im looking to build my first ever pc around early september i have a budget of £1300 to include a monitor, operating system, case etc.
So im wondering if all these parts would fit together and is there any way i could increase its performance without increasing the price tag?

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit £80

Monitor: 22" True HD Widescreen LCD Monitor £95

Case: CoolerMaster HAF X Gaming Full Tower Case - Black £150

Drive: Sony AD-7260S-0B 24x Internal DVD±R/RW/Ram Drive - Black £18

Cpu: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 125W C3 £130

Ram: Geil 6GB (3x2GB) PC12800 1600MHz Triple Channel Memory Kit £110

Hard drive: Samsung HD103SJ SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 3.5" Hard Drive £45

Motherboard: Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AMD 880 (Socket AM3) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard £90

Power supply: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular Silent SLI/Crossfire Ready ATX2.2 Power Supply £70

Wireless: TP-Link Draft N 300Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter £20

Graphics card: XFX ATI Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £470

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus (AM2/AM2+/AM3/775/1156/1366) CPU Cooler £25

All that should be in the region of £1300 . The thing i am most unsure about is if the ram would work with the motherboard.

Thanks Adam :D

The RAM would work yes but its not necessary, its triple channel and AMD uses dual channel, so pick a 4 gig dual channel kit
Also theres no real need for that gfx card just for a 22" screen, a 5870 or NVidias 470 would be more than sufficient, that would save you quite a bit
TBH Id want to look at a better monitor, its likely youll carry your monitor over to future builds so its worth investing in a decent quality 24" one, think around 250 quid maybe more, the 5870/470 will still be fine for this. Its pointless spending £500 on a gfx card and having a crappy monitor which cant display all that graphical goodness
You could also look at a slightly cheaper case, to save cash
If you want ideas read my thread (in sig and top of page) look at the £1000 builds and add your monitor
good luck and welcome too BTW

I agree the monitor is a complete waste on the 5970. Either get a better/bigger monitor or get a lesser graphics card. The money saved buying a 5850/5870/460/470 would allow you to buy a 64gig SSD to use as a boot drive which would increase performance.

Do you really need a full tower case?? Something like the NZXT tempest evo/antec 900 would do, takes big graphics cards and has space for 8 hd's and plenty of cooling

The ram will work but will be wasted so buy 4gig and save £30 there instantly.

I agree with dfour, drop down the graphics card and get a SSD. The 5870 will handle everything out at the moment and you can always add another later. I would suggest the OCZ Reaper memory. I have some and it's awesome.

Better monitor, cheaper mid-tower case, better psu, decent monitor...

Total £1,192.13 inc VAT

Very good build but the SSD isnt very good. I would spend a little extra and get the Crucial C300 64gb and I personally find 750w PSU's a pointless wattage. 650w for single card is sufficient but if you are planning to crossfire/SLI I would get a 850W+. So swap the PSU to a 650w Corsair.

Would go for C300 64GB SSD, if can afford. An LED monitor as suggested above is a good choice!

EDIT:

Just beat me to it :P

Cheers, ssd's are my weak point! Do you think a 750w psu would be enough for sli 460...slightly off topic!

650w would be enough for SLI 460's. I think the only point for 750w is either cf 5850's or SLI 470's everything else would be fine with 650w and anything higher 850w+

Not a bad 1st attempt, but i must agree with what everyone is saying :)
I think maybe spend abit more on the mobo maybe, and remember monitors dont produce sound (i think) so if you dont already own some speakers you may hav to invest some or maybe headset

Yeah not a bad crack for a first attempt. As has been mentioned tri-channel RAM is not needed, pickup the corsair XMS stuff this is used in the overclocked bundles.

I would consider going for a slightly lower gfx card 5850/5870. The CPU will be fine for gaming but move the money saved from the gfx to the mobo. An asus crosshair (III or IV) does proper xfire, both lanes are X16 your mobo selected is X16 & X4. The crosshair also comes with an X-fi soundcard and plenty of features for overclocking so you can get the most from your CPU. Yes it's a lil more money but easily justified.

As the new ati cards will be due soon, if your not happy with the single card you have comfort in knowing you can buy the same card cheaper and xfire it properly. I'm not suggesting nvidia as it's hard to find a good mobo that will do SLI with AMD cpus but a 460 is a good "budget" card with ample performance should you want to go that route.

Good luck with the build, I hope we are helping
