First time build - Gaming Rig

Thanks mate, all added going to order :)

Want to thank everybody that helped me, I will gladly let you have my gf anytime :D

Got a 120hmz already mate. Is sandybridge just a make like Asus?

Thanks mate that would be great. I saw video on how it all goes together but I would like someone to just advise me :)

Oooh then you shoudl go with an NVIDIA Card and get Stereo 3D

i mean, if you've already got a 120 Hz screen there's no reason not too with your kind of budget.

I'd go for two GTX 480 in SLI instead of that 6990 if I were you.

This is the thermal paste I'd recommend... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=TH-001-ID

Other than that, the overall spec of that system is making me drool :) lol

I think two 480s would mince up the 6990 and eat it for dinner... especially if you start overclocking them

Two is always, ALWAYS better than one :D

Two 580s however... now that's in another league ;) hehe

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-116-MS
but not as cheap as the 480 :)

Don't forget the pics when you start to build (and the obligatory 'box shot' :))

I think I might go with two of those 580s, I know it may sound stupid but would they handle the next 5 years worth of games? Also are they the best cards around that price tag to run in SLi/Crossfire?

As I understand it, this gives the best bang for buck yes. If there's a better one I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction :)

Strange false statement, the 6990 is two gpu's on one card, but has the advantage of having 2GB per GPU core, so will be better at higher resolutions.

Those GTX480's are reference designs, so will be extremely hot and noisy.

You can see how the 6990 stacks up against SLI GTX580 etc here - http://www.anandtech.com/show/4254/triplegpu-performance-multigpu-scaling-part1/4

But you are getting the convinence of not filling up the PCI-E slots on the motherboard, so adding another 6990 is childs play in 5 years.

Well I'm going to order it tonight, if anyone fancy helping me build and earning some £££ then let me know.

I live in Manchester :)

go with the 6990 madmuzza...it will handle anything you throw at it for years and as stulid said you can drop in another if you feel it ever starts to lag (which i cant see happening for a long long time) by which time they'll be cheap as chips anyway

Thats what I'm doing mate, but I what confuses me is what 6990 to go for?

Whats the difference between - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-033-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752

and

Is one make better?

Get the cheapest, both reference designs, just a different sticker and box.

The warranty length and clock speeds are the same too.

Ah okay mate will get the Sapphire one.

I will do a step by step photo guide lads, I will make sure I document everything.

to me the sapphire one is the best between it and the HIS...again in my mind sapphire cards have good build quality and that HIS cooler design is just fugly...even if the sapphire was £20 dearer like it normally is i'd buy it so lucky its on special this week..:)

Someone told me the Asus was the best but I'm going with Sapphire, I would order it all at work now but I don't trust this line....someone is watching me....

Roll on 18:00, hopefully if I order tonight it should be with me mid week when I'm off :)
