first time build help?

Hi this is my first time building so as you can guess im a little nervy about the big switch on this is my spec

The problem is i have a lead called IEEE1394 this has no place on my board and also there is a blue and black lead from my power unit that is not even metioned in the case manual there is more but lets keep is simple for now thanks ben
 
The ieee1394 is a firewire connector I'm not sure if there is any place to connect this on the DS3 motherboard. You don't need to plug that in so you can just tie it up and put it away safely inside your case.

What does the blue and black lead look like? Without knowing what they look like its a bit hard to guess what they do, I know in my current case Antec P160 I have blue USB cables which plugs into the usb ports on the motherboard.

Don't worry if you have some spare leads not all motherboard have all the connectors that a specific case can provide.

As long as you have plugged in all the power cables that is needed for your motherboard and connected the on button on your case everything should be fine, its nice to also plug in the led's and reset button but they wont stop your pc from running.

Hope your first build works ok! Nothing beats the feeling of your first own build, just beware you might awaken then upgrade/build beast :D

thanks for that i can stop panicing now.
 
It's probably too late, but it's quite good practice to build the basic system (Motherboard/RAM/CPU/Graphics) out of the case before you assemble it as the number one cause of component 'failure' inside cases is shorts with the casing. If you've tested it and it ran outside the case, then the chances are if it doesn't start inside the case it's shorted out somewhere.

Also - you should be careful with all those expensive components, but they are actually very hard to damage unless you fall/stand/sit on it. I've only killed one motherboard recently and I stood on that one. :rolleyes:

I *think* the black and blue cable from the PSU is the PSU Fan monitor cable. I have the same case/PSU but I'm at work and can't rip the case apart at the moment to check!
 
Yes, now PCAnywhere has mentioned it, I've just checked my Antec Aria and it has a twisted pair for the PSU fan.

it seems to work with out but im a bit nerve about sensors
 
Yes, or plug it into the motherboard header for PSU_FAN, then you will be able to see how fast the PSU fan is spinning - if you're bothered (I'm not ;) )
