I'm on a tight tight budget and looking to make a gaming PC. I'm fine sticking in RAM and graphics card but need advice with other components. I'm Wondering what i can salvage from my old computer in terms of DVD drive, Hard Drive, Cables, Fan etc?

So far this is what i'm considering buying

Case ' Silver midi tower 400W PSU +audio +USB ATX - £18 Will the PSU supplied be sufficient?

Motherboard "Asus Motherboard P5KC Intel P35 LGA775 Core2 Quad / Core2 Extreme / Core2 Duo PCI-E DDR2 ATX - £80 (4Ram slots 8GB max, PCI-E graphics)

Processor "Intel CPU Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz 1333FSB LGA775 4MB cache Retail inc.Fan" - £110
OR
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM - £160 (Not sure if the quad is worth the extra £50?

From here can i salvage my old hard drive and dvd drive etc? The system is quite old. Not sure about the motherboard type but its old enough to only run 184bit RAM modules. Will the DVD drive and Hard drive still be compatible?

Any requirements for an extra fan? I wont be overclocking so will the fan on the processor and the PSU fac suffice? I've got an old fan from my old system could i salvage that? And finally can all this run on windowsXP?

Apologies for the ignorance, and penny pinching, but i'm looking to scrimp everywhere possible to boost RAM and maybe graphics. Any advice or help would be appreciated?

if you;'re looking that sort of money on a processor let alone mobo and gfx card i would seriously re think the psu, for that price i would think its likely to be a no name unit that could die and quite possibly take u;'re mobo/cpu/gfx card with it.

case wise if you're looking at getting an 8800 card you'll need to make sure the case has enough space to fit it.

should run fine on winxp.

ok so rethink the case and PSU. How much would you recommend as the minimum spend on a PSU? apart from that can i salvage hard drive and DVD drive from another system. and what about additional cooling?
