First time build

Hey all, this is my first time building a PC and I am in much need of some help/advice on what to buy. Basically I want to build a PC intended for gaming and possibly some image editing/animation for my Art Foundation course and Uni.

I have a budget of around £600 and would be very grateful if someone could come up with a build that can get the most 'bang for your buck', seeing as I am a little but clueless on all the different components and making sure they will all be compatible.

Preferences
  • 22 inch screen, preferably a glossy one
  • Intel Processor
  • Quiet cooling (I'm not sure how much this affects price, but I want something that will stay cool during long gaming sessions whilst also being quiet)

Thanks :D

P.S. Keyboard, Mouse and Headphones I'm sorted on.

I too would suggest going with AMD on this budget - especially as a decent screen will take a solid chunk out of your budget.
Is the blue ray drive really needed ?

Ill look at specing u now.

EDIT:

with Intel + blue-ray (intel stock cooler is quite and will stay cool if you dont overclock)

AMD route.

I hadnt really looked at Intel boards from OcUK recently but theres nothing really there catering to the budget market.

Thanks for the quick replies :)

Ah I just checked the Blu-ray drive, probably not worth to £100 or so right now - can always get one later if I feel the need.

I dunno about AMD, I'm just used to Intel really - always seemed like the most popular processor.

What about Operating System?

I'm planning on using Windows 7 RC 32bit version

Well im not sure how well you will do on that budget to get a big monitor as well. You may want a similar build to my PC i built last year. So maybe something like this. Someone else would have to double check the mobo/cpu compatability cuz i'm a bit rusty on that.

Also if it's too expensive you could get within budget if you dropped down to just a DVD/RW instead of bluray

I always prefer Intel if the budget allows, but for you would definitely get better performance going with one of the new AMD's.

Nano, you have specced DDR3 RAM with a mobo that only supports DDR2!!!

And i wouldnt be happy running a dual GPU on a 400W Antec.

lol thanks, I got myself confused with the mobos. There's no mention of dual GPUs tho..... 400W is fine for that spec.
Apart from the MoBo on my spec that would keep you within budget, i'll edit/respec in a second.

lol i give up :P. I've been out of the game too long. I'll let the pros take over. My original plan was to show my pc build from my past orders but it was too long ago and the order is gone. :P, It would have been ideal. It cost me ~£500 w/o a monitor and was built for mid level gaming. never mind :P At least I tried. Also i didn't realise that was two GPUs i thought that was just part of its name :S
