First off, im new here, hello :)

More to the point, this is going to be the first PC that I am actually going to build myself, so I was looking for some advice on what to and what not to get from some stuff i've already selected. I get paid on Friday and am hoping to purchase it over the weekend.

Basically, what should I change and keep the same with this build, and if possible, what should i get that is cheaper!!

Any help is so very much appreciated.

I'd forget the Raptor X. It's a waste of money. Instead I'd get a pair of Western Digital AAKS-series disks in RAID 0. It'd be faster and cost less and have many times as much storage space.

That motherboard is a bit long in the tooth. A better choice would be the Asus P5K Deluxe.

Beyond that it looks pretty good. You could save some by not getting the OC version of the GTX and overclocking it yourself.

Thanks in advance.

You mean two of the 500GB one that is up there?

Is this the motherboard you mean?

Asus P5K3 Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
£139.99
(£164.49)

Would you suggest the EVGA card? It's been quite popular on here recently hasn't it?

No, I mean this board: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-236-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=913
The one you mentioned only takes DDR3 memory.

I would get either two of those 500s (or two 320s if you don't need the extra space) or perhaps a 73 GiB Raptor and the 500. I'm not much of a Raptor fan since I don't think the performance increase is worth the premium.

EVGA is a fine brand. The general consensus is that they're all pretty much alike so get what's cheapest and has the best support.

I've taken what you suggested into consideration and altered it accordingly.

I left the BFG card in as it's in the offer section this week, and is currently cheaper than the EVGA one and comes with a lifetime warranty, would you STRONGLY suggest the EVGA one?

I doubt i'll use much more than 500GB on that HDD, i've survived on 80GB on my current machine for 3 years :)

So, final verdicts before the big purchase?

If the BFG's cheaper definitely get it. I assumed incorrectly that the OC version would be spendier than the non-OC version. Good call.

You could get away with the Corsair 520W PSU if you felt like saving money. 620 W is overkill unless you plan on adding loads of disks or another GPU.

If it were my machine I'd consider a better case. Perhaps a P182 would sout your tastes while it'll also be easier to work in. I'm a huge Lian-Li fan so I'll always recommend the PC-7 or V1000/V1200.

if ** oc'ing then you could get a fan for the cpu hs, and get the cheap er version of that ram, and the ocuk 8800gtx and oc it for cheaper. If ** oc'ing any warrenties would nullified anyway. personally i'd get a cheap mobo to but that one's fine. by the time uve bought a fan for tht hs it's gonna be £60 may aswell pay a bit more and get this

it'd be much better for cooling.

Doubt i'll be oc'ing that card any more than it is already.

Shouldn't I be able to oc the CPU a little no hassle? I recall seeing people saying it in a previous thread, which included the same Ultra-120 as is in my spec.

Thanks

yh should be able to but that water cooling kit is just a lot better for not a lot more. but the thermalright will be fine for oc'ing, especially as it's a G0 version ** gettin on the q6600

I see. So basically wether I decide on the cooling up there or the water cooling you suggested, that would be the build complete? There would be no compatibility issues at all?

Cheers.

well there's no compatibility issues not sure if tht hs actually gets in the way of the mobos hs, someone else will know though.

personally this is what I'd get... (my future build probably) but it's almost identical performance really. and you could scrap one of the hdd's if you don't need the storage.

Ok then. Thanks a bunch for your input, very much appreciated.

I hope someone else as nice as you and BillytheImpaler can inform me as to weather this setup will function together.

Bonus, I got paid early :D

So, final verdicts before I click the magic buy button?

I think all I really need to know is if the cpu cooler will fit in there ok, if so, i'm set.

Thanks again!

Only thing I think i'd change out of that spec would perhaps be the wattage of the PSU, 620 seems to much, and do you really need the BFG OC GFX card? Would personally roll with the OcUK value one at £290 something.
But hell, it's your money, looks like a good spec to me :) Hope you've got a damn good monitor to run it on.

I placed the order just before 2pm today, so it will arrive tomorrow, i'll host some nice pics of it all together tomorrow :D

I opted for a lower wattage PSU in the end.

I recently bought a 19" Samsung TFT so everything should look funky.

The final spec was everything as listed above, with a 520W PSU, I went for the ASUS PK5-E instead, as the only difference really was it had one less Gigabit LAN socket, and saved myself about £25.

I would get cheaper ram if you don't plan on overclocking. PC5300 ram will suit you better. Also I would go for a gigabyte DS3R motherboard for £90, I would ditch the raptor it is a waste of money. I would personally have two 500GB drives in raid0 which is simple to set up.

Everything else is fine the CPU and PSU are a great choice.
