Ok so I built a PC based on one i'd seen on here, it's pretty much the same as the Titan Fusion (which I wish I bought instead now -_-), I've always been into pcs, upgrading etc, so I wanted to build my own for the first time to see if it's something I could do and maybe something i could do for part time work, I was pretty confident I could do it. But maybe I was wrong?

Didn't hit any problems with the assembly, everything went together well, kept static to a minimum with everything I did, ground myself all the time etc.

The problem is that the PC isn't POSTing (think its called that). No motherboard beeping what-so-ever. All the fans switch on, dvd drive works, hard drive feels and sounds like its spinning. tried disconnecting things and moving memory modules around but surely it should still beep.

Graphics card acts slightly strange, sounds like the fan sort of cycles, it starts at medium, increases its speed to maximum then slows down and starts again.

CPU is working I think, feels like it's heating up.

I've tried another powersupply so I dont think thats a factor, and i wouldve thought if its the exact same spec as the one i'd seen on here then it would be compatible.

i've tried clearing cmos, but i'm not sure if i've done it correctly, i've followed the instructions to the best of my ability but some of it is still a bit beyond me (things like the whole headers and jumper setting things which i think i've got right, though i'm not sure if you're supposed to leave any on or whether you receive them with any parts in the first place).

I thought perhaps the motherboard was toast but i'm not exactly sure on how you'd test or diagnose such a thing, went to that assumption purely because it doesnt beep and i know the speaker on it works because it makes a noise when you connect it with the power on. Even when i've got a monitor plugged in it just stays black.

I even got confused about no visible LED light on the motherboard (I wondered if you had to purchase it separate) having being used to one on my old pc.

Any help i'd really appreciate, I really dont want to feel like i've blown £400 on an experiment :(

Also if anyone does reply, can you try and make it as simple as possible, i'm not overly competant with the ancient art of pc wizardry.

Thanks for your time

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

Couple of things to check that may help.
Is the 4 or 8 pin for cpu power connected, this is situated beside the cpu socket and power to the gpu connected ok.

Edit: Memory modules should be in the first 2 or last 2.

Thanks! :D

Yep, thats in, tried both in and out to see the differences on both the gpu and cpu.

When the cpu one is out the graphics cards fan doesnt seem to bother going nuts with its 4pin in Still no beeping.

With the cpu one in and the gfx one out it somehow still makes the fan come on for the gfx card almost like it didnt matter about having it in. Still no beeps.

I've tested a bit with a volt meter also, not entirely sure on the proper readings other than whats stated on the psu, i just sort of dropped the probes onto certain ones i spotted from the manual and they seemed about right, 12v, 5v, 3.3v ish etc, i know it's not incredibly specific but if theres a major lack in power theres obviously a problem, and it would surely beep.

As you may have observed I have a bit of a thing about this beeping issue haha, but i was under the impression it's a very big issue.

Edit: Just saw the part about swapping the memory modules around, tried both in the 2nd set of slots, on their own as well as separate (as in one in the red channel, one in the yellow channel).
Even without memory it still (wait for it) still doesn't beep!

I took mine to a small computer repairer, because I had not got another AMD chip and they charged me £15 and flashed the BIOS for me as well.

But if you can borrow a X2 chip then try that.

Above post about Bios I think Is the most likely cause, but from a personal experience, It also sounds like you Gpu is buggered, try and see if you can borrow a Gpu from somewhere and see if that sorts the problem out before splashing cash on someone to update the Bios.

Ok so I took everything out of the case, set it all up on a wooden surface and it works. 1 beep from it, I can get into bios and everything, I'm trying to determine what version the bios is at the moment.

Everyone who replied thanks a lot ^^

did you use the standoffs when you installed your m/b ? ....... seems a daft question but if its your first build there is always an inkling of a possibility :)
