Hi, i'm looking to build my first gaming PC. I mainly want to use it for streaming steamvr to my Oculus Quest and possibly playing some pancake games via an xbox one controller. I already have a 2TB hard drive and was intending to just use the SSD for the OS. I'll be connecting the PC directly to the router via an ethernet cable.

Is there anything I could improve on this build while keeping the price in a similar range?

Does everything look compatible?

Is it ok to just use the ssd for the OS and store the games on a regular hdd? If so, whats the smallest ssd I could go with to fit windows on?

Is the case big enough?

Anything else I might be missing?

Apologies for all of the questions, just want to make sure everything is right before I hit the buy button!

Thanks in advance, Ross.

Hi and welcome, Ross.

Does everything look compatible?

The motherboard may not be compatible out of the box with a Ryzen 3600. That means you'd need an older Ryzen CPU to update the BIOS, or to send the board to someone for them to update it. The motherboard is also Micro-ATX and the case is ATX (it will still mount, just that you could go for a Micro-ATX case instead).

You can avoid issues with the BIOS not being compatible by getting a B450 Mortar MAX which is compatible already, plus is a better board anyway.

It is OK. It is better to have your games on SSD as well, faster loading times, any map travel (like 1 second compared to 10 seconds in some instances). But it isn't essential, and you could always add a larger games SSD when you have some spare cash. The smallest SSD to fit OS and your basic programs on would be 60GB. But neither 60GB nor 120GB are value for money. Would say 500GB-2TB is where the value is at.

Yes and you can go a bit smaller with a Micro-ATX case no problem.

The stock cooler is ok but a £20-30 aftermarket cooler would be better for temps and noise. Your choice.

You won't need an additional UK kettle plug if you get that Corsair PSU which is already a "UK" model. Even some PSUs that aren't specific UK models bring the correct plug if sold in the UK, with some exceptions now and then, usually quickly remedied by OcUK by sending out a plug to the customer.

The Gigabyte RTX 2070 is pretty close to 2070 Super performance and currently would save you £90 while offering better value for money. No wrong or right here, just your choice.

£25 over your own spec but has 1TB SSD, better cooler and a better wireless mouse. Tweak as you wish.

If you're sure a 1m ethernet cable will cut it then swap that 2m for it.

Hey Danny, thank you so so much for taking all of the time to answer my questions and put a list together for me. This looks pretty much perfect for my needs!
