Ok, my parts finally came today :D
This will be my first time building from scratch, have had to upgrade parts before but never put in a mobo or CPU.
I've seen people do it and gather it shouldn't be too hard but I also bought the tuniq tower 120 and I've heard some people say it can sometimes be a bit hard to put in.
Just wondering what the best order is to put things in with this cooler? Got an antec nine hundred case
thanks

Seat outside of the case. Keep trying, ensure it's seated properly before putting the motherboard in. It's a pain having to take it out countless times to finally get it seated right.

I set my motherboard up with the cpu and Tuniq out of the case. I actually did a practice run without any thermal paste applied, and not fully tightening up the screws just to get a feel for it, and a little bit of confidence about what to expect. I applied the back plate to the motherboard, secured the cpu, applied the thermal paste (If you have a Q6600 there is a guide that I can link in that shows exactly how to apply it on this processor) and then positioned the heatsink and secured it with the screws (opposite corners at a time to even out the tension ) I screwed down finger tight making sure that the amount of protrusion out the back plate was equal for each screw and checking that the heatsink (read house brick) felt secure:D. I put the ram in, then I put the motherboard on my case (not in it just yet) and fitted the 8 pin motherboard connector (it would have been a pig to fit once the board was in the case). Then lowered it in and secured it to the back plate. Once you've done that the bulk of the job is over. Connect all peripherals, carefully, and before power on (dun dun dahhhh) just double check that you have connected all power leads, especially the ones for the power switch, hd led etc. Once you're sure that you have, take a deep breath pray to the 4 corners and give it a whirl. Press delete to enter the bios, load system defaults, and change the ram voltage if you see that the boards default is lower than the manufacturers recommended volts. My ram likes 2.1v but the board gives it 1.8 on loaded defaults. Save the bios settings F10 and you should boot into windows. Once you're in, you can install drivers and software.
Sit back light your pipe.......:)
Good look Generator and "May the Force be with you :D

Just putting in motherboard and probably a stupid question but I'd like to be sure anyhow :P
Put the ip35 pro into the 900 and Im putting the screws into the brass standoffs. It says I need to use phillips-head screws. I have used all the ones I have to this and the motherboard feels pretty secure but there is still one left and I dont have another screw that's the same. Is it alright if I use a different type of screw or just leave it with 1 not done up?

hehe nice :)
just realised the 900 doesnt have a power led or internal speaker :(

btw - HD audio from the 900 is only if I have a sound card, right?

hehe, searched and read that :P havent powered on yet :P
1 question about the abit ip35 pro
I am trying to plug in my IDE dvdrw. It says there is meant to be an IDE port but I see only sata ports labeled. These also look pretty hard to get to. Any advice on plugging this in?

Everything seems to be working fine hardware wise right now :D
Just made one stupid mistake when installing xp though :P :(
Set a partition of 40gig, first time partioning and misunderstanding what it said didn't bode well. Now I have only 40gig of usable space. Is there anyway to undo this partition so I have all 250gig or will I have to reformat?
