First Time Custom Build. Looking for some advice on current spec.

So just as a recap, this is where I am now at.

CPU - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i GTX
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-AB360 Gaming 3
Memory - Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
Storage - Seagate Barracuda 3TB Hard Drive
Video Card - Aorus 1080ti
Case - Corsair Carbide 400C
Power Supply - Corsair RMx 650W
Wireless Network Adapter - TP-Link Archer T8E

Are you after silence - i'm noting the case?

And are you going for a big clock - or leaving things at stock? Keeping in mind you can clock the 1700 to 3.7GHz across all cores with the supplied Wraith.

Silence is relatively important, but a bit of noise isn't the end of the world.

I will look to OC the CPU yeah. The water cooler is a bit of self-indulgence over anything else if i'm being totally honest.

*edit* The 400C seems to not be the best for noise looking at it, aesthetically though i really like it. I've actually really been struggling to find a case i like and this is one of the few that i do like. The Enthoo Evolve i did like the look of as well, i might check the sound levels for that as well.

No problem.

It's a monster of a build and the AIO will have it's benefits if you're venting from the top (think it's possible with the 100i and LPX) coupled with the toasty 1080Ti.

Looks a quality, mega build - and should waltz its way through your work demands. And will be a mighty gaming machine when you get the chance to play. Will be an exciting build...

Best of luck - hope it all goes smoothly.

Yeah I think the 400C comes with two fans by default one 120mm and one 140mm so i'll probably have the 140mm in the top and the 120mm at the back, with the watercooler mounted on the front.

I'll add in my edit from the last post.

I've built with the below in the past - it's designed for silence in mind - and has a classy minimalist look in the flesh:

*No window though - but the panel does have added padding/soundproofing.

That's a decent call for the case, i'll mull that one over.

Will post pics once this is all done though, hopefully it won't be a sad me with a smoldering ruin :D

Very envious - having to delay my build until the builders have finally vacated - so much dust i dare not bring a new system into the house.

Late Autumn at the earliest - if they haven't drained me of all my money...

Look forward to pics - the none smokey versions.

So got everything today, wohooo and it seems like it actually works. Only problem is the Aorus card has a dodgy fan that rubs :(

A little bit of me regrets the water cooler as well, I dunno if it's just me but the pipes are quite rigid and trying to mount it on the front ended up the case wouldn't shut right because the way the pipes bent, so I've mounted it on top which means I have to take the radiator off to insert/remove ram. I now understand why people do a test outside the case now, I was just too nervous to do that.

But yeah it turns on :D will flash the bios tomorrow then look to install windows. Will need to use the 970 from my soon to be retired pc until I get the aorus sorted out.

Hey Elith

If you can't fix that fan with a simple fix (look for a loose wire clipping fan) I would return it.

The AIO should fit at the front - I don't use AIOs anymore (became disillusioned) i use quality air now, less component parts to go wrong. But, i've fitted enough to know you sometimes need to use cable ties to move the pipes (secure to case internals etc..). I'll find a link...

Here you go - Clicky - near end of video.

Don't fear testing outside of the case in future - it's not a problem. You can even short the power pins with a screwdriver to power on. Sounds a 'Heath Robinson' approach but very safe - just don't drop the screwdriver :)

But yeah it turns on :D will flash the bios tomorrow then look to install windows.

Great - and good practice to get it flashed and stable before install.

Best of luck with the rest.

Yeah I checked for wired it's actually rubbing against the casing for the card, seems like it is an issue with some of the Aorus cards, will get in touch with Overclockers on Monday.

Right I'll maybe do that because yeah I'm not really liking it mounted on the top of the case just because of the restriction.

Yeah I ended up having to take a ram stick out to get it to boot, think once the bios is updated it should fix the issue. But yeah all fun :)

Thanks for the link too.

Hey again,

So here are some pictures, they aren't great just off my mobile phone, but yeah. Pretty happy, obviously not the final graphics card, that is currently winging its way back to overclockers so hopefully will get that replaced soon :)

Also only realised today how horrid the sag is on that 970. Think it might need a little lego support.

Hey Elith

Looks great - glad to see the work around for the AIO worked out for you.

Those cases always look classy - especially kitted out with quality components.

Enjoy your build.

Also only realised today how horrid the sag is on that 970. Think it might need a little lego support.

A black cable tie may go unnoticed attached to the AIO pipes near rad intake/outtake. It's only a small amount of weight it would be partially supporting and shouldn't affect the AIO pipe - maybe worth a test.

Yeah thanks again for that tip, i used a velcro tie to bring them together, but then i used a few cable ties to lift it up on the top of the case as well, but yeah way better.

Yeah i opened my old computer up to get the 970 out and realised how handsome this build actually looks.

I think since it's just a temp thing i'll just prop it up with something for now, if the 1080 looks to be sagging a lot i may use cable ties :)

Thanks again for all your help Plec, it seems to have turned out well. I keep thinking i've forgotten something, but it seems to be working without issue, so i assume it's all good :D

Hey so just one quick update now it's all done.

After two faulty Aorus 1080ti cards i finally got a working one today, hurray. Big thanks to the staff at Overclockers for the rapid turn around in getting me new ones, customer service is 10/10.

Looks very sleek Elith (tidy build) - shame about the card issues but worth the wait.

It's a quality, balanced build - should last you a good while.

What game are you punishing with it most?

Hah sadly nothing yet, been just installing all my art related stuff back on the system now that it's all working. The only thing i'm looking at playing soon is Divinity Original Sin 2, which isn't very punishing, but very fun :)
