I would suggest putting a time limit on how long you are willing to wait for payment.

I've had buyers milk the urine from me, and made me wait a week - only the sent a cheque! Needless to say, the item was shipped a week after the cheque had cleared.

I ask for e-mail confirmation within 3 days and payment within 7 which has worked fine for me. Would you be happy with that timescale?

Also, why not accept cheques and/or postal orders? More potential buyers

Edit: I'm starting to see quite a few listings with something like:

And no, I wont send the <item> to your sister in Nigeria and send you the change from your £1,500 cheque."
