Hey Guys,

I have just purchased another two monitors to run an eyefinity setup with my x-fired 5870's. It hasn't exactly gone the way i'd hoped for tho. I purchased a DP to VGA adapter that seems to be working fine and have followed the video's on youtube to set up the group so that I can get full resolution of 6114 x 1152 ( 3x Dell SP2309W @ 2048 x 1152 ) I have the windows toolbar / desktop spanned across all 3 monitors and working.

The first game I tried out was Dirt2 and it ran perfectly when I started it up, I had to turn gfx down a little bit from ultra to high but it looked great and had fine fps for playing. All was well or so I thought until I tired a few other games.....

BFBC2 : CRASH
L4D2 : CRASH AFTER INTO
WIC : SCREEN WAS MOSTLY BLACK AND COULD HARDLY MAKE OUT ANYTHING
METRO 2033 : ENABLE HIGH RES AND SCREEN FLASHES LIKE MAD

I have also have BSOD with an error saying something about ATIKPAG on two occasions.

This is on a fresh install of Win7 x64 with ATI 10.8 Drivers

Unfortunately the displays will not fit on my current desk but have a bigger one order and should get tomorrow or the next day so setup has been done on livingroom floor.

If anyone could give me some help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kev

I generally haven't like any newer ati drivers since 1.5 but I guessed the newest ones would have more for eyefinity so ran with them, good suggestion tho, that will probably be the first thing I try out tomorrow. Back to the old trusty 10.4as or 10.5s. I have moved back to one monitor now on desk as too awkward doing all this on the floor.

Thanks very much guys ! I had thought it would have been a software issue. I should get my desk tonight so will set it all up properly and install the 10.4a drivers !

Hey guys,

I got my desk and have everything up and running but i'm having major problems with Eyefinity and X-fire, really not sure where to go from here.

I belive the problem is probably with drivers, If I install 10.8 I can enable crossfire and run eyefinity. However the only game that works is Dirt2. L4D crashes before main menu, metro 2033 the game loads but all screens flash and lag to the point where it is unplayable. Arma 2 same sort of thing, black screen that flashes the game.

If I install 10.5 or 10.4a I have to disable crossfire and only then will it give me the option to set up a display group for eyefinity. With crossfire enabled there is not option.

I know eyefinty works on my setup with the DP - VGA adapter.

All monitors connected to first card, have swaped cards around, cleared cmos but all to no avail.

Can someone help please ?

Kev

I have 10.5s installed right now with the 10.8a profiles, still no option to set up display group with crossfire enabled. I can get the display group option only when crossfire is disabled. Then when enabled it turns off eyefinity.

I'm rather annoyed as 10.8s will let me enable eyefinity with x-frie but the games don't work :(

This is setup though 2x dvi 1x displayport to vga adapter.

Well not getting v far with this. Have tried 10.4a & 10.5s with x-fire profiles but not working. I'm gonna try putting in a DVI + HDMI + DP, if that don't work then i'm gonna try 10.6 - 10.7 - 10.8, not really happy using those drivers tho as messed up xfire even on a single monitor.

Tried new CCC + 10.5, still same, about to try 10.6, thanks for the advice tho. Can't plug in hdmi as the adapter stops it from fitting :(

Getting eyefinity working now with newer drivers. However all the screens flash like hell and don't know how to fix this. If running with crossfire disabled there is no flashing. Getting close just need to get this flickering sorted and should be ready to rock. Any ideas ?

Well flashed the bios to a newer ati one. It's all now working now but i'm not happy with it at all. ON bfbc2 the fps are around 30 wiht crossfire enabled and around 40 with it disabled. I am running the latest 10.8 with 10.8a profiles. Steam games such as L4D2 and CSS won't run on crossfire at all. The screens just contactly flash. This is the same for Arma 2. Anyone else here running x-fired eyefinity that could post there set-up plus the fps they get on bfbc2 and if steam games actully work with x fire. Starting to think this was just a waste of money.

Tried a new drive install, still the same thing, seems completely pointless to have x-fire when it makers performance worse if anything. Thinking of putting then on ebay and getting nvidia if this is the drivers ati are putting out.

What driver version and profile versions are you guys using to get this to work then ? I will try some games again to night with whatever version you are using and also with AA disabled. The only versions of CCC I can get to work with crossfire is 10.7 & 10.8, the earlier versions don't seem to give me the option of making a group when crossfire is enabled. Anyone heard anything about new drivers yet, leaks ect or will we have to wait till 24th or around then ?

Ok well i've done a complete clean install of win 7 x64. Made a new image with Acronis and have installed everything except direct x and ati drivers. I have downloaded every driver since 10.3 to 10.8. There is not a chance that there will be any other drivers to mess this up. Completely clean install. What do you guys think I should start with ? This is gonna take a while if they don't work i'll have to format C: and bring back image. I'm gonna go threw them all and see what happens. Fingers crossed !

Well 10.8 with 10.8a profiles, bf2 getting about 40 - 45 fps in one part with crossfire enabled, getting about 55 - 60 with it off, any suggestions what version to try next ? Seriously considering selling one of these 5870's.
