First time on Motorway after passing driving test any tips ?

Always check blind spots, don't just use the mirrors. A few times I have been about to move the steering wheel to switch lanes and something has buzzed past me that I didn't see in the mirrors.

Keep a suitable distance away from the car in front, especially if its raining and busy.

Blackvue camera; 44ton truck v Motorway lane hogger video is epic! haha

But genuinely who here sticks to left lane 70MPH the whole way on the motorway?

I most definitely do not, I usually stay in lane 2 or 3, but I'll move over to 1 if there's nothing going slower than me in there (i.e I'm not overtaking anything) AND someone is coming up behind me.

I only ever go in to lane 1 if there is a mahoosive gap, which is pretty darn rare.

Me usually, unless I'm overtaking something...

This. It can sometimes feel like you're a middle lane hogger if the left lane is going slow and the gaps between cars just aren't worth the hassle of moving over, for all of 5 seconds.

Do a pass plus. I did one and I actually think it was helpful. I'd been driving to work on a busy dual carriageway for a month by the time I was able to do one and it was still helpful.

Always check your blind spot. They aren't kidding when they call it a lifesaver.

Don't sit in a trucks blind spot. This is generally anywhere alongside it.

If you can, move a lane over before slip roads merging with the motorway you are on. This makes your life simpler if there are people merging.

This can even apply if you're in L2 and L1 is fairly solid. If there's a load of wagons in L1 and there's something merging they might want to move over to L2. If L3 is clear you could anticipate this and move over. No obligation on your part to make room for people merging, it just makes life easier all round.

The biggest thing with motorway driving is you're going fast which means you have less reaction time. Therefore you need to be looking further ahead and trying to anticipate other drivers.

Someone in the lane to your left gaining on the vehicle in front of them and braking? They probably want to use the lane you're in to overtake.

Load of brake lights far ahead? You could start easing off, looking for why people are braking. Those dot matrix signs showing 50 can mean there's been an accident etc.

The AA say "Anticipate what's coming next by sweeping the road ahead visually. Look 2 seconds ahead, 4 seconds ahead, and 12 seconds ahead, and check your mirrors." which sounds about right.

Don't just sit there looking at the car ahead matching speeds. Look far ahead and scan your mirrors regularly.

A lot of people drive a bit quicker than 70. 80 is normal unless you're a rep in a vauxhall / audi in which case it appears to be 90.

Aside from cameras I think the police generally aren't interested in people doing 80. Don't feel you have to go that fast mind you.

Lol remove your head from your anus and talk like a human being.

And the answer is probably not, pretty much every time I drive on a motorway there is a reasonably steady procession of slower vehicles in lane 1, if I was to move over every time a car appeared behind me I would have to slow down and then accelerate back up to speed, so I don't move over. As stated however if lane 1 is clear and I see someone coming up behind me I'll move over.

im a middle laner aswell, making sure i am constantly over taking via the right lane, and movuing back to the middle, dropping to the left to enter the junction

Despite all my crying about it I rarely drive using the inside lane, even if the road is completely empty. That said, I am very unlikely to be holding anyone up.
