First Time out in the new dragster

Such a great car, over 800 views and so few replys. We should sponser these guys imo! :D

Do you have any pics of the build etc, costs etc?

I'd be interested to know how big the clutch is on these things. Bit random, but still!

Oooh I would guess at about 8.5 / 9.5 inches judging by the stall.... not a manual clutch though, would be a torque converter :D

Adam - have to ask, what was the launch like?

How much skill/technique is there in racing these things? Not having a go, just genuinely curious what the difference would be between a relative newbie and a seasoned driver. It's quite obvious where the skills are in track/rally driving, but not so obvious to the uninitiated with drag racing (i.e. me :))

its a fairly small torque converter, 8-9inches I think but haven't seen it for ages!!

regards top fuel cars, best times and speeds in America are 4.42 seconds and 337mph

it feels awesome, just picked up and went everything just felt so right in the car, it did go a bit sideways seeing a video but nothing un-controlable, was only a 60ft launch to begin licensing and 1/2 throttle so theres more to come, with wheels up launches too :D

there is a lot more to drag racing than people think, the car is constantly trying to go anyway but straight and where you want it to go! torque about 900 ft/lbs of torque from our N/A big block, around 6500ft/lbs from a top fueller so theyre trying to move you round a lot. Also given the huge acceleration the front wheels have very little contact with the track surface

best way to experiance it and understand really is to go to santa pod, stand in the 'barn' behind the cars and just watch

regards to how much it cost, you dont wanna know!! always more than you expect but cheap compared to round roundy really.....

I'll dig out a few pics of the build up (including shortening the body by 2 foot!)

cheers for all the comments and interest guys

Also forgot to mention that to the uninitiated the acceleration is normally enough to throw your hands off the steering wheel!

Anyone remember when Top Gear stuck Tiff Needell in Vivica Averstadt's (sp? - no idea :D ) top fueller? That was awesome  You don't normally see a slow mo of a launch but because he let off almost immediately due to the shock you saw how much the whole car took a bow and a twist, then straightened up. Amazing to watch, I don't thnk there is any way to harness that much power

Edit: btw, we're waiting for some wheels up action - crack to it man!!!

I think it was Peter Lantz's fueller Tiff tried to drive, **** himself pretty much at the hit, that was hwne he realised drag racing wasn't anything like a 200mph supercar :p

the wheels were not far from lifting off so I'm told, so few more rpm on launch (no idea what I launched at cos the tach wasn't wired up) and full throttle she'll paw the air like a good 'un :D looking forward to some side by side burnouts and wheels up launches with John Everitt in the Alien altered

bit of an update

render of the planned paint job for the car

over the winter gunna do some weight loss on the car, new wheels and tyres all round but thats about all thats needed!
