Hey guys,

I want to overclock my system, and im pretty new to overclocking.

Specs :

Abit KN9 SLI
Albatron 7950GT 512MB
AMD X2 5200+
OCZ 2GB DDR2 800MHZ
WD 250GB 16MB HD

Ive got all the necessary tools I think :

Core temp
speedfan
cpu z
hd tune
rivatuner

What should I do before I start messing with the core + clock speeds to make sure its as safe as possible?

Thanks :)

ok ive increased the fsb by 5. should i run 2 copies of sp2004 with priority 10? or just run 2 copies of sp2004 with standard priority?

ok thanks.

so if i run this orthos beta for say...10 mins and i dont crash, is that sufficient proof that its stable at that overclock? or should i go for longer

whats a safe temperature for my cpu's to be at under load?

ive increased the fsb by 10mhz atm and its at 2.73ghz, with temps of 55 and 54 under 100% load.

should i be modifying anything apart from the fsb on the overclock??

its a windsor chip, with average temperatures of 54-55 under max load at 2.73.

should i wait until i get my cooler, which will be the coolermaster geminii II, or should i push it until the average temperatures under load are 59-60??

also, jokester, is it safer to increase (for example) my fsb to 275 and drop my multiplier to 10 rather than having my fsb at 211 and my multiplier at 13?

thanks for the advice cob

also, should i drop the ht multiplier, as i read that most boards cannot take significant overclocks on it, and mine is at 1050mhz at the moment

ok mate, i think il leave it at 2.73ghz then until i install my coolermaster gemini II , then hopefully I can bump it up to 3ghz :)

should i leave the volts as standard? im not sure what they would do

ok so i have the overclock bug now :p

using only nvidia control panel overclocking tool, i asked it to find the optimal frequencies.

on my albatron 7950gt 512mb the standard frequencies were 550 on the core clock and 700 on the memory.

nvidia found the optimal to be 600 on the core clock and 800 on the memory. does that sound about right or is nvidia control panel wrong?

hey

i have a problem

i overclocked my graphics card but it worked fine and it was stable.

but, i changed the resolution to 200mhz to test it out, but now the screen is black and i cant see anything

i can see bios, and windows load screen and all sounds are on. it loads to desktop, i just cant see anything, i can click on things but cant see what im doing.

how can i change my resolution back to 75?

ok, but i dont know how to get into safe mode.

can you please text me how to do it on 1-800-hot-stud

thank you. otherwise i cant see these forums

yet more problems, and the funny thing is that none of them are overclock related!!

as i said, i changed the resolution to 200mhz to test, little did i know it would poo up my pc. basically, i can now see my desktop again but after uninstalling and reinstalling my nvidia drivers, the network controller has become corrupted and i cant figure out how to correct it.

ive used the motherboard cd and reinstalled the ethernet drivers but its not showing the ethernet and lan connections in network connections.

how do i fix this? thanks in advance

tried that already cob, and thanks if it was you who sent me the text :)

atm im on my sisters laptop, and im installing the latest forceware + display drivers on my pc, hoping it works...

it keeps popping up found new hardware 'sm bus controller', is that to do with my ethernet?

no

i have 2 things with a yellow question mark next to them, network controller and sm bus controller. i think i need to install the drivers for them but i cant find where to get them

yeh i managed to find them and i already installed them. it gave me the ethernet driver and sm bus driver, but there is still a question mark next to network controller and i still have no internet connection
