Yes get rid of the competitiors!

FAQ at the top of the page.

No promotion of OcUK's competitors

We, Overclockers UK (OcUK) are happy to provide the resources of these forums to responsible individuals without charge. They cost a substantial amount of money to maintain and use considerable amounts of bandwith which is paid for exclusively by us. As you know OcUK are in the computer hardware business and therefore the promotion of OcUK's competitors is forbidden. Examples of promotion are :-
Posting links to competitors websites
Posting links to reviews that promote competitors
Quoting the names or contact details of competitors
Offering to provide the names or contact details of competitors
Hinting about product availability at competitors and their pricing
Using the forums to notify a member of intent or actual supply of names or contact details of competitors
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in signatures
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in profile
Posting links to or the mentioning of auction sites
Disguising attempts to do any of the above

Advice -----------

Though the P180 is a very good case you may get agnoyed with after a while with cable mangement etc. Very agnoying when you have to take stuff out etc. I suggest the Akasa Eclipse 62, its brilliant case.

Go for the 8800GTS or wait until mid MArch when AMD-Ati bring out the R600.

The mobo does have 4 RAM slots on it. Maybe look at a 680i or a 650i board.

With the CPU either get the E4300 or E6300 and overclock it, the E6400 isnt worth the extra money when a E6300 caneasily out clock it.

Oh for christ's sake I borked my entire post faffing about with that...

Sigh.

I had wanted to show I had at least "tried" to do the legwork myself... Oh well...

Thanks for responses guys but unfortunately my thread is now...

"Spec me a gaming pc from nothing with £1200-1300" please. :(

Overclocking or want a no-mess-around solution?

Contrary to the evidence so far I am a pretty smart guy :p and can probably handle software based over clocking. If it ends up with geek goggles on and a soldering iron with crocodile clips and stuff then I would have to bow out lol. :)

Overclocking is easy once you know how, and to be honest reading the overclockng forum is how I overclocked mine :) There is a huge thread called beginners guide to overclocking so you will be sorted :) you won't need to get the soldering iron or anything as yo will be fine just using BIOS etc :) To be honest I would say something in the region of an E6300, DS3/4 DQ6 ,2GB RAM, 965P/975 chipset mobo and a decent GFX card will have you sorted. As for the GFX card, its up to you really, you could just go out and buy an 8800GTS/X atm as they are very capable but then again as mentioned AMD-ATI are bringing out their equivalent mid-march so you could wait and get an x1950Pro/7900GT which are very good for the money :)

Thank you KMistry and Evil grin, I will devour the information in overclocking forums now and check out the gear listed. Thank you. Anyone else with feedback feel free to contribute thanks.

If you want to go the slightly more budget and overclock the hell out of it route, try these components instead:

Intel Core 2 DUO E4300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail £97.99(£115.14)
Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Tenth Anniversary Dual Channel Kit (TY2KIT12864AA663) £169.99 (£199.74)
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler £28.99 (£34.06) - You need a monster CPU cooler for a monster Overclock. ;)

Trust me mate, just get rid of them. Otherwise your entire post will get deleted.

Or your post will become yet another battlefield on the validity of such a rule!!!!! Oh, how we all love those threads!!!!

Heres what i have, That graphics card i have chosen is pretty good for the price and will do you until you decide you either want to go for the 8800 or see what the new ATI Radeon card is like.

And the E6600 should do you very nicely even if you dont do any overclocking to start of with.

Thanks for that man I really appreciate it.

What is the anticipation for the R600?

It does indeed say it is HDCP etc but would the x1950 ati card run 1080p video? I am half faffing about with the idea of the dell ultrasharp 2407...

That ATI Pro card is pretty good for the money and its not worth getting a 200 pound card if your going to upgrade it to a Direct x 10 card very soon.

The R600 no one really knows about it yet

The Monitor is up to you really most of the Dell Monitors are superb but quite a bit of money but if you have the money defiantly get one.

Are you willing to spend that much on a monitor if so go for it i would thats a hell of a screen :)
