First time setup of FTTC - Router and Modem both default to same IP address?

Hi,

I'm getting FTTC installed on Tuesday, so I am just doing my background research so that I am as informed as possible as to how to set everything up and to reconfigure my existing hardware.

One thing I have noticed from my research, though, is that both the HG612 modem that is often supplied by the engineers in non-BT/Sky installs (so I won't be getting a all in 1 device such as the HH5 or SR102) and my current router (Asus AC68U) both have a default IP address of 192.168.1.1

It seems that all Asus routers have this as the default IP address, so this must be a fairy common issue and I was wondering which device other users have found it easier to allocate a new IP address to so that there aren't any conflicts?

Thank you, in advance, for any assistance offered :)

Thank you both very much for your replies. Does this still remain the case if I chose to use a modem with modified firmware to give me access to connection stats, as I may consider doing this for a new connection to make sure that everything is as it should be.
