Afternoon all

Im picking up a Suzuki SV650 next month as my first road bike. It gets a good review over on MCN and ive not really heard anyone say anything bad about it. Anyone here have experience with this bike?
Will be used for commuting in summer, weekend rides and holidays so it ticks all the boxes.

What I really need help with is picking up all the gear. I've budgeted £500 for the lot but not sure if I could get more for my money by going second hand/bay?

Can you let me know if I am on the right lines?
Jacket £100
Trousers £120
Gloves £50
Boots £100
Helmet £130

I do a bit of motocross on my yz250 and have gloves, boots and a helmet but not sure if I would trust them for road use...

Cheers

Your mx boots will be more protective than road boots, its just the restrictive movement in your ankle might make gear changing tricky. They'll certainly do until you find road boots.
Id maybe budget a little more for boots, I bought a cheap pair when I started riding and they done 2 years but weren't the best! £130ish will get you some nice touring ones, comfy and waterproof!

Helmet id buy new, your budget should get you a decent one.

Jacket and trousers, if you're going for textiles then get a set, you'll get a good set with that budget too! Same if you're going 2 piece leathers, will cost more than textiles but not sure how much.

Gloves, I've still got a cheap £20 pair, they've lated well but I get blue hands if it rains! Definitely worth spending a little extra so your £50 isn't far off.

This is assuming you dont want to look like a leather clad power ranger! You'd blow your budget on leathers alone!

Hope its of some use.
:D

Avoid rst race boots, mine lasted 6months before they wore into a big hole where you change gear,my sidi black rain boots lasted 2+ years of abuse, weise make good textile jackets/trousers

Some cheap bike gear coming in aldi from march 1st,gloves £14.99 boots £29.99 plus neck warmers n thermal socks ect, worth a look

I always found the SV's ran ride in the bends compared to other V twins, but then again, only ridden one a couple of times.

I bought some winter gloves from aldi, had pins and needles in both hands after about 10 mins.

yes you have to be carefull what your buying but its worth a look,im currently using a pair off fleabay new with carbon fiber or lookalike carbon fiber knuckle and finger protectors on them, using them for over a year now and they are warm n waterproof paid £25 so there are some good cheap stuff around

Don't wear crosser boots on a road bike, they're a pain. I use walking boots which have reasonable ankle protection.

If you buy textiles, expect them to let water in after around 12 months.

Buy the helmet that fits your head first and foremost. The lighter the better as well.

The SV is a great little bike for the money, the engine really sells it for a first time road riders. I had mine for a couple of years and never had any issues. The finish on them isn't the best though especially the front forks so make sure to look after it and keep it clean or they will start to corrode.

looked at the airoh helmets? similar to cyberg but bit cheaper

flip up helmet

the laguna jackets good, and i have the very same trousers, they are warm n waterproof n ive rode in some bad/stormy weather, theres no zip in the fly though which can be a pain if your bursting for a jimmy riddle but no zip=no place for rain to enter

sv is a great bike, and make a nice deep sound too, just be carefull on it

I have the Spada ST-1 WP in black, had them for 2 years, I bought them after reading a positive review.
2 Years on the heel is coming of on the right boot. The left boot was never waterproof from the start...
Would not recommend!!!!

just bought some aldi boots haha, they are the real deal too with scotchlite reflective material, cant be no worse than the crappy rst razer boots, lasted 6months tops

Well I ended up ordering:
Weise Laguna Jacket
Weise NRG Pants
Spada Race Tech 2 Gloves
Spada ST1 WP Boots
Caberg Ego Ultralight

If I don't get on with the boots then they're going straight back! A friend has the same pair and says they're great for the money so ill give them a chance.
The Caberg Ego is much better than I was expecting, hopefully we'll get a nice hot summer so I can make good use of the sunroof :D

Full face but with a sliding panel on the top to let air circulate. Thought it was just a gimmick at first but it gets a very good write up and user feedback.
