First watch

I'm a big fan of the Seiko Kinetic watches. Nice movement and great quality.

Unfortunately someone half-inched my current Kinetic at the gym, so I've fallen back to my Tissot and Invicta watches.

I have this view on watches. You either go Omega/Tudor/Rolex upwards, or you just get a Seiko.

I would not be spending £1000 on a mid tear watch, often some of these mid tears are worse quality than a Seiko at far less money.

What I would do is save money and get a second hand Omega Seamaster, or Omega Man on Moon, Tudor Black bay second hand, Rolex 40mm Explorer 2 second hand. All these are investments that you can wear for you entire life and value will only go north.

I think you're right when it comes to the sort of garbage from the likes of TAG in that price range... I mean things like the F1, basically a swatch with a TAG label on it and bizarrely selling for a grand or so

Christopher Ward was worth a look back when they were £300 or so but probably not these days. And some of the homage stuff just feels a bit tacky, sort of like buying a basic 3 series BMW that someone has modified a bit to look like an M3.

On the other hand Nomos (made in Germany rather than Switzerland) are decent and fall within that range + are rarer than the more expensive and quite common Omega, Rolex etc... bit less flashy too tbh.. but still beautifully made(+ they have an in house movement).

Christopher Ward C60 is a nice automatic dive watch at this price point:

It looks really nice but long term it's dead money, honestly the OP is better saving more money and getting a second hand Omega Seamaster. The Omega is a far better quality watch, and he can always get his money back when he wants.

This says it all on Christopher Ward, look at the discounts they are offering on their site. A high quality watch would never be discounted like this.

Buy second-hand is good advice.

I've never quite understood the hatred for Tag on here. I have a Link Quartz Chrono that I bought second-hand for under £500 in mint condition and it's been perfectly behaved for the ten years I've had it and it gets frequent praise from others. The Link models have a unique look that I think is really classy. Each to their own I suppose.

I second steinhart -- I have the Ocean Premium Blue for a year now, it's my most worn watch too..

Other than that you can get a Longines Master's Collection for around that price -- and it's also a gorgeous watch; the Longines Divers are also very nice (Aquaracer).

invicta ftw.

got myself one and to be honest 90% of the population wouldnt know the difference between it and one more expensive.

mine does the job its intended to do and looks similar to something worth 100x the price which also does the same job.
