Hi,

advice for a small Fishtank for goldfish for the children. Any recommendations, I don’t want it too big, just to go on top of the kitchen worktop

Thanks

If you don't want a big tank then forget goldfish, they need plenty of water.

How about a Betta? Easy keep, don't need a big tank and not too fussy on water quality.

Oh right
Thank you. Don’t know anything about this topic. Just thought something nice for my two young girls to watch, enjoy and feed etc.
Thank you for your suggestion.

Please don't get gold fish if all you plan to do is stick them in a "bowl" on top of your kitchen worktop.

Goldfish are dirty things. As mentioned a Betta might be good or just a small tropical tank with a couple of corydoras and a couple of platys or swordtails. They’re fairly bulletproof for beginners.

This is great advice. Thank you. I don’t know anything about fish. Just automatically thought goldfish. But if other simple avenues to explore. Then great

Also you should know that there's about a 90% chance the person selling you the fish will have absolutely no idea what they're talking about and will say anything to get the sale. So do your research first.

The guideline ~10 years ago was 100+ litres for a single "fancy" (small) goldfish and then at least 50 litres for each extra one.
