Hey,

I've never been allowed any pets, but now I've got my own pad I've been thinking I want some company! Can't have a dog, cat or llama (top 3 preferences out), so I thought why not get some fish!

So I guess I'm interested to here fish related experiences, see your fish setups and just get tips from all you fish owners :D ideally looking for low maintainence fish that look pretty and don't nag (i.e. male fish :p). Not really sure where to start though!

Cheers,

Suman

Erm, well cold water tanks sound easier to maintain and setup than tropical ones... am I right in thinking that? Tropical fish look cooler though :p

Tank about 2 foot wide, a foot high, but not too deep (gonna be placed on a thin-ish sideboard).

Not really fussed about what kinds of fish... as long as they aren't too fugly and boring it's cool :D

Can I get fish that eat the algae and stuff so I don't have to arse about cleaning tanks and changing water every month and stuff like that?

Where are you thinking of putting the tank?

I really have no idea! My fish knowledge is sort of limited to -> Goldfish, Shark, Moby Dick :p I went to Pets At Home today and saw some cool fish but again I'm not sure what you can put together in a tank and which fish are "good" ones to get...

Also a good filter will help with the cleaning

That's another area I'd like advice on... what are the good brands and models of aquarium kit? :)

I got bored of them & flushed them down the loo.

I'm not gonna delve into a) the ethical issues of that and, b) what deep psychological issues you may have. :p

So, my vote goes to the piranha.

Hmm I'm actually quite intrigued by this idea, sounds pretty cool. They are tropical fish though right, so I'd have to play around with heaters and stuff. And I could have no other fish in there or they'd get munched I guess!

Are they quite expensive? I don't really have a strict budget, but I don't wanna be paying £20 a fish or something silly!

Cheers,

Suman
