I was wondering if someone could offer any advice. I love going to the gym but am prone to getting colds. (Southerner living in the north lol)

I eat as healthy as most, plenty of fruit and veg but after a period at the gym for the few weeks I seem to catch any cold going.

When I go to the gym I normally go monday to friday, an hour a day.

Anyone suggest something that I could try?

What's your routine and what are you trying to achieve? You may well not need to be there for 5 days a week.

It's quite a common thing, think about supplementing with some vitamin c (1000mg a day, more when you're ill). Although I have no experience with it, quite a lot of people also praise L-Glutamine for helping to prevent colds.

My routine is limited by my lunch. I only want to get my fitness back and lose some weight. So mainly just running. Might do some weights for toning.

Because of my restricted time I do go flat out though. tried Vit C 1000mg but my sourthern genes are letting me down lol

Can you go to the gym in the morning? Exercising before you eat is one of the best ways to lose weight.

Fat loss is actually greater at lower intensities, in other words. Brisk walks with an incline on the treadmill as opposed to just caining it.

If you do like sprints though, give HIIT a search on Google.

What's your diet like? You want to be eating lots of small meals throughout the day rather than large ones (around 6 meals a day). This keeps your metabolism high and will help weight loss, as long as you keep the calories down.

Keep taking Vitamin C and look at L-Glutamine, it's not expensive.

Going in the morning isnt as easy. Some weeks I can but I start work quite early.

I do enjoy sprinting but i do mix it up with uphill walking on the treadmill.

My diet is ok. Not perfect but I would say healthy. Usually only snack on fruit throughout day and drink plenty of water.

What does L-Glutamine do?

It does several things, the most useful being the promotion of muscle growth and boosting of the immune system.

Seriously though, many swear by it for preventing colds when training frequently. Your body uses glutamine during your sessions at the gym, so replacing it is nothing but sensible :)

Do you weigh yourself regularly or just go by the mirror? Weighing yourself at the same time each week (the morning before breakfast is best) helps to let you know if you're going in the right direction.

What does L-Glutamine do?

It aids in replacing Glycogen (energy in basic terms). Basically it will replace the glycogen levels and help keep your immune system running at full capacity as when you work out, your energy reserves are drawn on heavily and after a good session your immune system will be greatly weakened.

Damn you Wardie, quick fingers posting before me ;) You've learned so much since I've been less frequent on here. I'm really impressed, keep it up mate.

Thanks guys I will give that a try sounds like just the thing for me. I will beat off these northern germs!!!

In answer to your question I dont weight myself. Just go by how I look really. If I can fight off the germs then I wont need to worry about the actual weight loss as I love pushing myself to my limits.

Might even do the Great Northern Run next year if this helps.

Thanks again!

Someone has to make up for your slacking Styles, thanks though :)

It certainly wont do you any harm bloodline so best of luck with it.
