Fitted Wardrobes

Any of you guys that built-in IKEA Pax care to show any pics or guides? We’d quite like to do that in our new loft next to the chimney part of the wall. Seems silly to build anything in as it’s not actually an alcove, but I’d like it t

Sorry no photos so I will try to describe as best I can. The way ours was 'built in' was on a base that was raised up enough to get the bottom just above the height of existing skirting, made from CLS and screwed into the wall then skirting attached to the front.
Up the sides and above was framed with more CLS and MDF attached.

Just checked, and our room height appears to be 232cm. That's annoying as it means, from the Ikea Pax, the taller will not fit, but the smaller will leave 30cm of wasted space.
Seems to back up the plan to go bespoke though.

I installed some PAX wardrobes about 4 years ago, I took a couple of photos in assembly, so I attach here. They are 4 separate units, screwed together and to the wall. The photos don't show all the internal options we fitted, draws in 3 and glass fronted sliding shelves in the fourth.

I am very happy with them, solid as a rock and really practical. I think they cost about £1500 at the time.

Full mirrored doors, and I find the doors to be solid and very durable, system is I think good value for money, provided you spec it right and build it right, attach it to a solid wall etc.

I was in flat pack hell for 2 days, 44 boxes were delivered... and no issues with anything thank god.

It is wasted space but not the end of the world. IKEA sell massive boards that you can cut to shape to fill the gap in neatly.

We're also in the PAX-low-ceiling club... Bought them for another house, where ceilings are 232cm so would have been tight. Then covid meant we never ended up moving in there, So they remain unassembled and boxed. Bought a house of our own this year - ceilings are 235cm so still not sure if I'll have to modify the frames!

Would be interested in any pics of how it went. I'm more than capable of the carpentry, but would be nice to have some ideas without having to trim down every single piece.

We have the taller ones and there is about an inch of space at the top but our top shelf is hard to access given the height, we have a few of these slotted in there. Use them with stuff I barely wear but dont want to throw out plus some stuff I won't need until summer. Flip flops and that kid of thing. You could put them on top. https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/skubb-storage-case-white-50290361/

We've only just finished and as its essentially a fully fitted out little room its hard to get a good picture. This is from the online planner and what I meant when I said you can overlap them.

Small thread resurrection :p

Just moved into a house and need some wardrobes. Would really like the floor to ceiling look but I measured it at 237CM. Is this enough space to build upright and with hinged doors? Or do I need to admit defeat and go with the smaller units?

Edit: Might help to say that I am talking about Ikea PAX wardrobes and the 236CM units.

We did the daughters room year before last.
She decided what she wanted, and we got a local firm to quote. We got two quotes from local bedroom companies. We didn't use any large big brand company as I'm not a fan of contractors being used etc.

The chap we used only lived a few streets away, ran his own company with a shop in town, it was all made to measure and he did a great job....We had to wait 3 months for a slot. And it cost 3k. Soft close, internal draws etc, desk area in the middle with a grained effect 'makeup' draw. Really nice, and maximum storage for all her carp :D

We also had a local company cut some toughened heat proof glass for the desk area, ya know, teenagers and straighteners etc..
Damn I'm a 36 year old man with the same colour ringbinder folders, apart from that it looks excellent.
