Fitting a CPU Block

Hi
I am changing my Rampage 2 extreme to an ASUS Maximus IV 1155. I was advised by some nice chaps on here that my EK Supreme block would fit and I have checked the instructions and it details how it fits the 1155 skt- I think I have to add an extra rubber seal that came with the block.

My rig already had the block fitted so my question is whether it is difficult to fit a waterblock and is it easy to convert from 1366 to 1155?

I have fitted a GPU block to my 6990, so I am not totally inept, but I don't want to mess it up.

Any advice appreciated.

If you can fit a block to a GPU you should be able to do the same to the CPU.

Make sure you have some fresh TIM.

If you're not 100% sure, youtube is your freind.

Installing a CPU block is (imo) a little more difficult than fitting a GPU block, key things to do:

1. Clean CPU and block contact surface with TIM cleaner (if needed, if both are brand new you can avoid this step.
2. Fit backplate if required (all blocks these days will come with 1366/1156/1155 plates as a minimum, most socket 2011 boards do not require a backplate) and screw in stand-offs.
3. Pick your method of applying TIM (I use MX-4 with rice grain method).
4. Place block on and screw each nut/spring down about half way.
5. Once you are happy everything is in position start to evenly screw down each nut, you shouldn't need to get any tools involved, hand tight should be fine.

Also note its a whole lot easier if you do this with the board laid flat rather than vertical in a case.
