Fitting a dual head unit.

If the '99 Fiesta is anything like the Focus and Mondeo then it will be 1.8 din and not double. What headunit do you have in currently?

You could use a standard Ford 1.8 din headunit with disc changer under the seat. That was what came as standard with my Focus, e.g. fit a Ford 5000 tape player, and a Ford disc changer.

It will probably cost you at least £100 for just the disc changer though.

Convert the tapes to cd? ;) You can get a lot of tapes onto a cd if you buy a unit that can play mp3s
 
Or buy an adapter to give you aux input on your current headunit, and put a portable tape player in the glove compartment (could even wire it up to the 12v of the cars headunit)
 
I'm more tempted by a CD changer under the seat TBH as i can't be bothered recording her music!

Obviously i can fit the head unit, how do you run the cable to the changer? How does the changer secure down? And does it need a power Source?

The power should be provided from the headunit. You will need to run a cable from the back of the headunit to wherever you decide to put the disc changer.

I've just checked on the Ford Focus Owners Club, and it appears you can get adapters for certain manufacturers of cd changers so they will work with the Ford headunit. There does appear to be some problems with disc changers with more than 6 discs only showing the first 6.

Running the cable should just be a case of going across the dashboard, then running it along the edge of the inside of the door sill.

Fixing it will be a case of either screws, bolts, or my favourite...velcro. This is far easier if you remove the seat, or fit the disc changer in the glove compartment.

This is all based on a Focus, but should be the same for a Fiesta.

That should do the job nicely. I am 99% sure it's just the one cable to plug into the disc changer, but I will double check tomorrow as I have one sat in my Focus, just to make sure!

Edit: If the Fiesta ever had the option of the cd changer then there is the a slim chance the cabling "might" already be in place. Its worth getting the cable anyway and treat it as a bonus if it is. I know on the Focus a few people have found the wiring loom already had the cables in place.
 
Well the cd player came in the post today, and i thought i'd see how much its out by, and its about 5mm, I can't belive ford are so pathetic, i assume they made this size difference to stop aftermarket units getting in there?

Shame because its a nice unit, but i think i'll put it back on the bay tomorrow :(

Just end up getting a ford changer in the end i think.

Regular DIN sized aftermarket units work fine - and double DIN ones are not popular enough for a manufacturer to purposefully design something to avoid their use.

The reason is actually becuase Thatcham, I believe, score a car more highly on security tests if it has a non standard sized radio.

Maybe your right, that does sound like good logic.

Do you think Fox that it'll be easy enough to install the changer under the seat in a Fiesta then? And get all the cable's sorted, before i go and order one?
 
It should be but why would you want to? The Ford 6006E is a 6 disc dash mounted multichanger already or do you wish to increase capacity of the system to 12 discs in total?

Looking for a tape and CD solution really, thats why i bought that Panasonic head unit, She's got a large selection of tapes, and I can't be bothered to record them all onto CD.
