Fitting a washing machine timer....

You set the program and push the ON button on the machine itself to kick it off. Using a timer, i'd just leave the machine 'ON' as it were and let the timer kick the switch on to give the machine electric.

Have you tested whether this works - especially after several hours?

Personally I wouldn't leave any appliance on at night.

This is what happened to my dishwasher, the Fire Brigade said same thing can happen to washing machines.
